Report For 3/12/08

Division One
Roamers Run Wild
Cirencester 'A' played Cirencester 'B' in a match that saw Graham Slack spoil the party by winning a fairly comfortable maximum for the 'B' side's only three points of the evening. Graham's team mates, Gavin Collins and Barry Turner were no match for Cirencester 'A' who were represented by Rob WIllsher, Howard Williams or surprisingly Gordon Shaw who each won two.

Chelsea Building Society won yet another game at the expense of Lakeside 'A' that lifts them off the bottom of the table. Both Guy Greening and Bill Dawe enjoyed maximum's against the Lakesider's Richard Moores, Roy Fowler and Pete Wood. Guy and Bill then combined to win the doubles and secure a seven games to three victory. Simon Moysey of the Chelsea was unfortunate in losing all of his games.

Winchombe Cavaliers played Chelsea Building Society in a match that saw yet another victory for the Chelsea which was a team affair led by a maximum for Bill Dawe, a brace for Guy Greening and one win for Dave Metcalfe. The Cavaliers points were won by Tristan Gretton who contributed two, losing only to Bill and Craig Norledge with a win over Dave Metcalfe. Stuart Greene was particularly unlucky to lose all three as he played very well against both Guy and Dave, losing in close games that could have gone either way.

Winchombe Roamers played Cheltenham Table Tennis Club 'B' in a match that saw a heavy defeat for the Cheltenham Side represented by Dominic James, Simon Pratten and Jon Gaskell who were no match for the Roamers represented by old timers Nick Mytton, Doug Payne and Matt Hartwell. Simon Pratten won the only point of the evening for Cheltenham with a win over Doug Payne.

Division Two
First Win In Tewkesbury Derby
CCS A played out an entertaining 5-5 draw with Lakeside C. Chris White picked up an impressive maximum for Lakeside C, whilst Dave Hart and Phil King won twice each for CCS A. White’s match with Hart was particularly close, with White coming back from 2-1 down and seemingly out to record a victory in the fifth set. Steve Murton chipped in with one win for CCS A and Paul Singh did likewise for Lakeside C. Lakeside C secured the draw with a straight sets win in the doubles.

Tewkesbury A emerged victorious for the first time this season with a 6-4 win over club rivals Tewkesbury B. Rob Amphlett claimed a maximum, Mike Tyrrell won twice and Wayne Lippett picked up one win to secure the victory. John Goodchild picked up two good wins for Tewkesbury B, whilst Michael Maxwell completed a four-set victory over Lippett. Goodchild and Maxwell picked up an excellent five-set win over Lippett and Tyrrell in the doubles.

Cleeve Saracens A entertained Cheltenham C but were outplayed by a convincing 7-3 scoreline. Anand Keshav was in fine attacking form for Cheltenham C and he claimed a relatively straightforward maximum. Christine Williams was also playing well and she picked up two wins, while Martin Smith won once.  For Cleeve Saracens A, Ross Greening was in good form, managing two wins, and making Keshav work very hard for his victory. Mike Dodwell toiled away but only managed one win. Keshav and Williams were worthy winners in the doubles, condemning Dodwell and Greening to a straight sets defeat.

Lakeside B were convincing 9-1 winners against Cheltenham D. Maximums for Andy East and Paul Singh (playing up from the C team) and a brace for Andy Richards did the damage. Matt Mulcahy was the pick of Cheltenham D’s players, defeating Richards in four sets and losing unluckily in five against both East and Singh. Lakeside B won the doubles in straight sets.

Division Three
2 Max's For Zac
Zac France and Mike Brook each scored maximums for Cheltenham F at the expense of Cheltenham H, whose sole success came from Rob Starling.

The meeting of the two top sides produced a narrow 6-4 win for Tirley Tigers over Old Saracens, for whom this was their first defeat. The victors had Elaine Evans to thank as the only player to achieve a maximum, although team mate Pete Humble lost his unbeaten record at the hands of Pete McGeough. Tirley’s Leslie Dewick was involved in the only two five game sets, but narrowly lost them both. Pete and Elaine clinched victory with a four game doubles win over Pete McGeough and Tony Child.

Zac France continued his good run of form, leading Cheltenham F to a 7-3 win over Cheltenham G. However, he was pushed hard by Jon Laramy, but eventually won the final game 11-4. Ryan Godwin picked up two for Cheltenham G.

Civil Service B were limited to only two players against Cheltenham H, and scraped home 6-4. Rob Starling put the pressure on by beating Alan Thomas of Civil Service, and also taking Jeremy Turberville to five games, but Jeremy and Alan took the doubles to secure the win.
