Division One
Roamers Romp Home
Lakeside 'A' played Cirencester 'A' in division one of the Cheltenham table tennis league, where the Lakesiders made Cirencester work very hard for their 7-3 win. Both Rob Willsher and Mike Kiff of Cirencester came from 2 games down to win in five against Richard Moores. Lakeside's Suzy Robinson was in top form easily beating Dave Adamson and Mike Kiff. Pete Wood also beat Mike Kiff. Rob Willsher of Cirencester was the star of the evening and was clearly back to his best form winning all of his games.

Winchcombe Roamers played Cheltenham 'A' in a match that saw a heavy defeat for last years champions by eight games to two. Nick Mytton for the Roamers was clearly back to top form winning all of his games. Nick was well supported by his team mates Doug Payne and Matt Hartwell who both chipped in with two wins each. Cheltenham's points were won by Mike Harvey with a win over Doug Payne and Robert Harvey with a good win over Matt Hartwell. Paul Perks put in his first appearance of the season and was unlucky to lose all his matches.

Chelsea Building Society secured their first win of the season against Cheltenham B, thanks largely to a good maximum from Bill Dawe who put in his first appearance of the season. Bill was supported by Dominic Wynn-Sands who won two and Simon Moysey who won one. Dominic and Bill then combined to take the doubles and secure a seven games to three win for Chelsea. Cheltenham's points were won by Milan Dragojlovic who won two, losing only to Bill Dawe and Simon Pratton with a good win over Simon Moysey.

Division Two
Ferguson On Fire For Wizards
Lakeside C performed excellently in division two to earn a 5-5 draw with league leaders Winchcombe Wizards. Yet again, Keith Ferguson was in imperious form, winning his three singles games in straight sets for the Wizards. Paul Singh won twice for Lakeside C, including a very close five-set encounter with Chris Lane, coming back from 2-0 down to win the final three sets 12-10, 11-6, 11-9. Lane and Jacqui Carver won once each for the Wizards, whilst Graham Chandler and Chris White did likewise for Lakeside C. White just had the edge in a particularly close match with Carver, winning 13-11, 9-11, 10-12, 11-3, 11-9. With Lakeside C needing to win the doubles to force a hard-earned draw, Chandler and Singh stormed to a surprising straight sets win over Ferguson and Lane.

Cheltenham C claimed a 6-4 win against Lakeside B in the first battle of the season of last year’s top two (who finished on an identical number of points!) Player of the night was Cheltenham C’s Anand Keshav who won all three of his matches relatively comfortably. Christine Williams also performed excellently, winning twice, including an impressive straight sets defeat of Ken Smith. Andy East was Lakeside B’s top performer, claiming a brace. Keshav and Williams completed a fantastic night for Cheltenham C, combining to claim the doubles and ultimately the match in a five-set win over Andy Richards and Smith, coming back from 2-0 down to win 6-11, 4-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-8.

Winchcombe Warriors edged to a 6-4 win against previously undefeated Cleeve Saracens A. In a finely balanced match, the difference was the all-round game of attack and defence displayed by the tenacious Richard Bishop of the Warriors, who managed to gain a maximum in singles and win the match with the help of Graham Fisher by taking the deciding doubles. Mike Dodwell managed two wins for Cleeve Saracens A and was assisted by Terry Sims and Ross Greening with one win apiece, whilst Fisher chipped in with two wins for Winchcombe Warriors.

Cheltenham D and Tewkesbury A played out an entertaining 5-5 draw. Rob Amphlett was in excellent form once more for Tewkesbury, completing straight sets victories against Alan Harvey, Matt Mulcahy and Linda Probert. Mulcahy and Harvey won twice each for Cheltenham D and combined successfully to win the doubles in five close sets, 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7, condemning Amphlett and Alan Cook to defeat and thus earning Cheltenham D a draw.

Pete McGeough and Sheila Matthews led the way for Old Saracens in their 8-2 win over Cheltenham H. However Mike Brook of Cheltenham spoilt the party by coming back from two games to one to overcome John Adcock 11-8, 6-11, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7. Mike and Tom Parry then teamed up to take the doubles.
