Division One
Wizards Sparkle In Derby

Smiths B
played against title contenders Cheltenham B this week in a game that saw Cheltenham increase their lead at the top of the table, albeit having played one extra game than the trailing teams below them. The individual scores suggest this match was closer than the final result with numerous games going to a fourth and with a couple going to the decider. Dave Harvey of Cheltenham B had an untroubled maximum, Robert Harvey also took a maximum but was pushed to the wire to overcome Ken Smith in a tense deciding set. Smith in turn denied Cheltenham's Paul Perks a maximum.

Winchcombe Wizards won neighbours Winchcombe Cavaliers 6-4, in an entertaining game that was dominated by Choi Sze To of the Wizards.  She won a relatively comfortable maximum and was well supported by Chris Lane who won two and then combined with Choi to win the doubles and the match. Luke Moffat of the Cavaliers won two with each of his team mates Craig Norledge and Darrell Wiltshire recording one win each over jacqui Carver.

Cheltenham C played Saracens B in a fairly one sided match that saw the Saracens win by a comfortable 9-1 margin. Roy Morley and Alan Smith of Saracens each won maximums. Jon Gaskell earned the only point for Cheltenham C with just the one win over Judy Morley.

The match between Smiths A and Cheltenham A was postponed.

Division Two
All Square In Saracens Derby
Saracens D and Saracens E drew 5-5 in an entertaining match. The only undefeated player on the night was Sheila Matthews, who put both Tony Iles and Neil Penny to the sword comfortably. However, Iles and Penny were too strong for Matthews and Tony Child to take the doubles and prevent defeat.

Tewkesbury A overcame Tewkesbury B 8-2. A maximum for John Goodchild and braces for Simon Lockley and Mike Tyrrell ensured that Tewkesbury were victorious. Alan Cook picked up a good five set win over Tyrrell whilst Wayne Lippett did likewise against Lockley, having been 2-1 down. Simon Lockley got revenge over wife Alison to make it one win each for the season.

Saracens C steamrolled Saracens E 9-1 in a comfortable victory. The outstanding Mike Dodwell and Ross Greening claimed maximums and Terry Sims chipped in with a brace. Pete McGeough won the E team’s solitary point with a five set win over Terry Sims, having been 2-0 down.

Winchcombe Warriors maintained the pressure at the top of the table with an 8-2 win against CCS A, although Richard Bishop finally lost his 100% record. The only maximum of the night came for Winchcombe’s Jan De Wet, who played superbly to gain three wins. Mike Vick and Bishop won twice each, both losing to Dave Hart, who played superbly on the night. Bishop and De Wet had to work hard to defeat Phil King, and just managed to do so, both in the fifth set. This was an entertaining match of the highest standard.

Saracens C pushed their way to the top of the table with an 8-2 defeat over Tewkesbury B. A maximum for Den Wadley and braces for Terry Sims and Ross Greening were enough to take the victory. Tom Urbanski completed an excellent five-set win over Sims, whilst Alan Cook overcame Greening in straight sets. The doubles was a tight affair, with the Saracens pairing claiming it 11-8 in the fifth.

Cheltenham D brushed aside a rather limp Tewkesbury A 7-3. Matt Mulcahy was in sparkling form and both he and Alan Harvey claimed relatively comfortable maximums.
