Division 1 report
Secretaries Comment: In a match between CTTC 'A' and Winchcombe Royals that
took place on 25 January the scorecard had Nick Mytton down as one of the
players for the Royals and losing all three of his games. It recently came
to light that this was an error and it was in fact Nick Davidson who
participated in this match. I have therefore amended the averages
accordingly. Nick Mytton blamed Dave Harvey for this error saying that he
was a bit of a Knob! The secretary was somewhat surprised at this comment
from Nick, but had to agree :)

Cheltenham Table Tennis
Club 'A' (Dave Harvey, Rob Harvey, Mike
Harvey) played Lakeside 'A' (Pete Wood, Roy
Fowler, Rich Moores) this week in a match where the Lakesiders were clearly
out of their depth and suffered a whitewash defeat. Only the Lakesiders Pete
Wood and Rich Moores showed the slightest resistance each taking a game off
Cheltenhams Rob Harvey before losing in four games.

Winchcombe Royals
(Duncan Arrandale, Keith Ferguson, Nick Davidson)
played Chelsea Building Society
(Bill Dawe, Guy Greening, Simon Moysey) this week in a
good spirited match that commenced with an excellent game between the two
shiny roundheads. To be fair Duncan quite looked the part whereas Bill's
look was somewhat spoilt by the Bi-Focal glasses. Despite Bill looking
vastly older than his age he continues to dominate against most teams and
won all of his games with relative ease dropping just the one set to Nick
Davidson. The Royals Nick Davidson reversed earlier season defeats beating
Simon Moysey and additionally recorded his first ever win over Guy Greening
in three straight albeit deuce games. The Royals only other point of the
evening was a win for the shiny roundhead Duncan Arrandale over Simon
Moysey.

Cheltenham Table
Tennis Club 'B' (Dominic James, Martyn
Reeves, Jon Atkinson) played Cirencester
(Mike Kiff, Gordon Shaw, Rob Willsher) this
week in a match where Cirencester risked playing Mike Kiff and were
fortunate to squeak a narrow victory. In Mikes defence it must be quite
challenging to play Table Tennis as there can not be much Oxygen to
breath at that height. Cheltenhams four points were a team affair with
each player winning one singles, surprising not all against Mike and
then Dominic and Martyn combined for a good doubles win against Mike and
Rob to secure their fourth point. Cirencesters Rob Willsher enjoyed a
nice maximum supported by Gordon who won two losing to Cheltenhams
Dominic James. Cirencesters Mike Kiff enjoyed one win against Dominic
James who is probably Cheltenhams best player.

Lakeside 'B' (Andy
East, Chris Ball, Ken Smith) played Chelsea
Building Society (Dave Metcalfe, Guy
Greening) this week in a match was spoilt partly due to Bill Dawe
protecting his average leaving Chelsea a player short and then if
that was not bad enough the rowdy Winchcombe Roamers were playing on
the adjacent table. Despite these trying conditions the Chelsea
managed to scrape a narrow victory with Guy Greening winning what is
probably his first hatrick of the season supported by Dave Metcalfe
who went racing up the averages by squeaking a couple of wins
against Lakesides Chris Ball and Ken Smith, but was unable to
overcome Andy East who won the only point for the Lakesiders. This
was a good win for the Chelsea particularly considering the abuse
they had to endure from the adjoining table with Nick Mytton
throwing balls into our court when it looked like the Chelsea were
going to win a rally and then that combined with Doug Payne with his
constant verbal abuse made it an even sweeter victory.

Lakeside 'B' (Andy
East, Chris Ball, Ken Smith) played
Winchcombe Roamers (Doug Payne,
Matt Hartwell, Craig Norledge) in a match where the Roamers
Norledge to protect Nick Myttons average. This match proved to
be rather expensive for the Roamers Craig Norledge as he
reportedly said "if I do not beat Andy East three straight then
I am buying the Beers", Craig did infact lose in five closely
fought games and ended up buying the beers. That win for Andy
East was the only singles victory for the Lakesiders, their only
other point was from a good doubles win where Andy and Chris
beat the Roamers Doug Payne and Craig Norledge which by my
reckoning makes Craig Norlege the Roamers weak link! :)

Division 3 Report
Eagles earn dramatic
draw
Tirley Tiger 5 Cleeve Eagles 5
Despite being one player short, Eagles were well
worth a deserved
share of the spoils against second placed
Tigers. Tiffany Hopton and Dan Crook gained two wins each for Eagles, and came
back from two games down to snatch the doubles against Pete Humble and Janie
Kirby 3-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6.
No hiding place for
Civil Service
Cheltenham J 9 (N Blake, R Godwin) Civil Service B 1
Civil Service B were shown no mercy by a rampaging
Cheltenham J side, for whom Nick Blake and Ryan Godwin won three each. Rob
Browning gained a solitary point for the losing side.
Leaders face player
problem
Winchcombe Vikings 4 Civil Service A 5
Both teams were a player short, and it was Civil Service
who felt the major impact, as they edged through to gain a narrow win. With
player shortages for the rest of the season, they will have to rely on their B
team for re-enforcements. Viking’s Mark Ozanne and Alan Gallop both beat Alan
Thomas to put the pressure on, but two wins for Jonathan Nixon plus success in
the doubles saw them home.
Cheltenham H
consolidate third spot
Cheltenham K 0 Cheltenham H 10 (M Wells, K Ansley, J
Ansley)
No joy here for the bottom side as they were swept aside by
Cheltenham H, who look likely to finish the season in third place. Richard
Comley almost overcame Matt Wells, and Tom Warner fought well against Kai
Ansley, but in both cases to no avail.
Lady Luck deserts
Cheltenham K
Cheltenham K 0 Cheltenham J 10 (M Inman, J Theyer)
Cheltenham K
were desperately unlucky to come away with nothing from this match after taking
five of the ten sets to the deciding game. Richard Comley lost in the final game
to both Matt Inman and Jamie Theyer, whilst Luke Greening suffered a similar
fate to Jamie and also to Nick Blake. Max Kelly failed to compete in one set due
to illness. Inevitably the doubles was another closely fought encounter, with
Matt and Nick coming out on top 11-13, 11-3, 5-11, 11-5,
11-3.
