Division One
Understrength Smiths Still Hang On For Draw
Cheltenham C lost a great chance of a win over Smiths A when their No.1 Harry Shahlaei couldn't make it through the snow on match night. However this seemed to spur Jonathon Atkinson on as he put in his best performance so far with a magnificent maximum against the Champions. Lawrence Shahlaei did manage to get there though, and won one before teaming up with Jon to win the doubles to force the draw.

Not for the first time this season the Dave and Michael Harvey duo turned on the style. This time Chelsea Building Society were their victims and both had three wins in their 7-3 victory.

In a game full of top class table tennis, Saracens A just pipped Rudford 6-4. Brian McRandal was top man for Saracens, winning all his singles in straight games. Dave Hope won two for Rudford including a nail biting 15-13 win in the fifth over Natasha Hurd.

Winchcombe Cavaliers struggled against a two man Smiths C but still ran out 7-3 winners. Graham Brown was unbeaten for the Cavaliers and Barry Pope put in a good performance to take two for Smiths.

Division Two
Cheltenham D Stop Wizards Winning Spell
In the clash of the titans, Cheltenham D overcame league leaders Winchcombe Wizards by 6-4 to inflict their first defeat of the season. John Gaskell was in imperious form, winning all three games. This included a straight sets victory over the previously undefeated Nick Davidson. Gaskell took himself to the top of the averages with this maximum. Mike Fry and Dave Green won one apiece for Cheltenham, Fry overcoming Keith Ferguson in five games and Green just about seeing off Chris Lane 11-9 in the fifth. Nick Davidson was the pick of the players for the Wizards, winning his other two games comfortably. In the deciding doubles, Gaskell and Green maintained their 100% doubles partnership edging out Davidson and Lane in five close games. What a match!

Saracens B stormed to an 8-2 victory over CCS A and their return to form is confirmed. Ross Greening claimed a very good maximum, and he was well supported by Terry Sims and Dennis Wadley who won two each. Dave Hart was again in good form for CCS A, beating Sims and Wadley and pushing Greening all the way to five sets.

Winchcombe Warriors cruised to an excellent 7-3 victory against Tewkesbury A. Richard Bishop was in emphatic form, winning all three of his games, including a titanic battle against Rob Amphlett. Amphlett lost only his second game of the season as Bishop’s driving forehand and crushing backhand became unstoppable. Mike Vick chipped in with two wins, and in an extremely close doubles, Vick and Bishop edged out Amphlett and Mike Tyrrell 11-8 in the fifth.

Smiths D ran out 8-2 winners against Tirley Tigers thanks to a maximum from Chris Ball. Dave Mackman and Julie Taylor claimed braces of wins for Smiths, although Taylor was pushed all the way by a determined Janie Kirby, winning 11-9 in the fifth. Elaine Evans continued her good run of form for Tirley with two good wins over Mackman and Taylor. Luckless Tirley saw a five set doubles encounter slip their opponents way too.

Saracens C thrashed Saracens D 8-2 thanks to maximums from Dave Cosnette and brother Martin. The D team only fielded two players. Tony Iles managed to grab a point in an exhilarating five set match with Tony Walsh, whilst he teamed up with Neil Penny to claim an agonisingly close doubles 15-13 in the fifth against the Cosnette brothers.
