Smiths Win Understrength Saracens
Saracens A played Smiths A this week and without Brian McRandal were
always going to struggle against Smiths who have strength in depth.
However, the Smiths players did not have it all their own way with both
Pete Wood and Bob Trimble of Saracens taking Nick Mytton to a deciding
set. Bob Trimble played particularly well and beat Doug Payne for the
Saracens only point of the evening. Matt Hartwell was Smiths best
player dropping only one game in winning his three singles matches.
Cheltenham B entertained their C side in a good natured game where C were outclassed by the strength of the Harvey family with all the games except one being won in straight games. Anand Ker made young Robert Harvey work a bit before Robert won comfortably in the fourth.
Saracens B played the Winchcombe Wizards this week which saw the first outing of the season for Craig Hayward of Saracens. This suited the Wizards as Craig having not yet found his form lost all three and were the only points won for the Wizards, although Nick Davidson was made to work hard, beating Craig narrowly in the fifth. Alan Smith of Saracens played well to win all three although this was not plain sailing either. Alan was made to work very hard against both Choi Sze To and Keith Ferguson before winning in the fifth game. Darren Griffin not surprisingly won all his games in straight games.
Chelsea Building Society A played Winchcombe Cavaliers and came away 7-3 winners. All of the Cavaliers comprising Craig Norledge, Graham Brown and Stuart Green won one each against Simon Moysey of the Chelsea. Graham Brown played well particularly against Bill Dawe and was unlucky to come away with just the one win.

Vick Is the Tonic For Warriors
Winchcombe
Warriors completed a 10-0 win against Saracens E thanks to maximums
from Richard Bishop, Jan De Wet and Mike Vick.
Smiths C won a close encounter with Saracens C by a score line of 7-3. In a tight contest, Mike Dodwell remained unbeaten on the night and put in an exceptional performance to win all of his matches in straight sets. However, Barrie Pope, Paul Singh and Chris White each won twice to give Smiths the advantage. Pope was involved in an extremely tight contest with Terry Sims, winning 12-10 in the fifth. Indeed, 10 games during the night went to deuce, but luck appeared to be on the side of Smiths, who won 8 of them. Pope and White went on to beat Ross Greening and Sims 12-10 in the fifth set of a very exciting and closely fought doubles contest.
CCS A cruised to an 8-2 win against Tewkesbury B. Dave Hart and Phil King claimed maximums. Ali Lockley and Alan Cook won once each for Tewkesbury in a match that CCS A dominated.
Tewkesbury A claimed a hard fought 6-4 win over Smiths D. Rob Amphlett won all three of his matches whilst John Goodchild won twice. Chris Ball picked up two wins for Smiths although Goodchild pushed him all the way in the fifth set. Julie Taylor claimed one win, defeating Mike Tyrrell in a titanic battle, 12-10 in the fifth. Tewkesbury led 6-3 going into the doubles, but the Ball/Taylor combination proved too strong for Goodchild and Tyrrell as Smiths claimed a further vital point.
