Division One
Its All Square In Cheltenham Derby
Saracens A played Newlands Park A in a match that looked to have been more closely contested than the scoreline of 2-8 in favour of Newlands suggests. Alan Smith of Saracen's played well to win the only points with wins over the ageing Nick Mytton and the slightly younger Dave White, however Alan failed to overcome the youngster Matt Hartwell in a closely fought game before losing deuce in the deciding game.

Winchcombe Wizards entertained Cheltenham A in a fairly one sided match that saw the Wizards defeated by 9-1. The Wizards only point was secured by Chris Lane with a fairly good win over Rob Harvey.

Chelsea Building Society played Winchcombe Warriors in a match that surprisingly saw the Chelsea emerge winners by 8-2. Particularly surprising was a hatrick of wins from Dave Metcalfe and Simon Moysey. Dominic Wynn-Sands made slightly heavier work of it and looked to have been fortunate in overcoming Mike Vick in a closely contested five setter. Richard Bishop of the Warriors took full advantage and played well to overcome Dominic in four games and gain the only singles point for the Warriors. Richard then combined with Jan De Wet to win the doubles and secure the warriors remaining point.

Winchcombe Wizards entertained Newlands Park A in a match that saw a fairly heavy defeat of 2-8 for the Wizards. The Wizards points were won by Nick Davidson with a win over Doug Payne and Stewart Ratcliffe with a win over Andy Richards. Nick Mytton was the only player to win a maximum although he was pushed somewhat by Nick Davidson before winning through in four games.

Cheltenham B played Cheltenham Table A in a derby match that ended in perhaps a predictable draw. Dave Harvey of Cheltenham A was once again the star of the evening with a hatrick of wins supported by one each from his Son's who both overcame Russell Hayward. Graham Slack of Cheltenham B in his first season back for a number of years is clearly finding some form with two wins over Mike and Rob Harvey and taking a game off old man Harvey. Graham was well supported by Milan Dragojlovic who also won two and he too was unable to overcome the strength of Dave Harvey. Graham and Milan then combined to win the doubles and secure the draw.

Winchcombe Cavaliers entertained Saracens A and surprisingly suffered a 2-8 defeat. The Cavaliers only points were obtained by Luke Moffat with a win over Pete Wood and Craig Norledge with a win over Richard Moores. The match between Craig and Pete was an epic which saw Pete's experience show through winning 18-16 in the deciding game. Richard Moore's clearly played well to win two that included a good win over the ever improving Luke Moffat.

Division Two
Tigers Humbled By Leaders
Tewkesbury A and Cheltenham D fought out a dogged 5-5 draw. Alan Harvey was in excellent form and he claimed an outstanding and extraordinary maximum. It was nothing short of jaw-dropping as he beat all three Tewkesbury players in straight sets, including Rob Amphlett. Amphlett was, admittedly, slightly below par, but take nothing away from Harvey who performed superbly. Amphlett and Mike Tyrrell won twice each for Tewkesbury.

Newlands Park B crushed CCS A 10-0 with maximums from Andy East, Andy Richards and Ken Smith. David Hart offered the greatest opposition winning a set against Smith and pushing Richards all the way to a 13-11 win in the fifth set. However, his heroics ended up counting for nothing as his team came away pointless.

CCS A fared better against Newlands Park C in a rearranged game from November. Barrie Pope was the best player on the evening, winning all three of his games, although again the luckless Dave Hart lost in five sets, this time 11-9. Steve Murton picked up two excellent wins for CCS A, condemning Graham Chandler and Paul Singh to straight sets defeats. Jon Nixon also picked up a good win against Singh. The deciding doubles went CCS A’s way, ensuring a draw for the home side.

Newlands Park C secured their second draw in the same week in a tight contest with club counterparts Newlands Park D. Chris Ball was the man in form, claiming an excellent maximum, including five-set victories over Barrie Pope and Chris White. White won twice for the C team, and Pope, Paul Singh, Mike Gleeson and Julie Taylor all won once. The deciding doubles was predictably close, with Singh and White coming back from two sets to love down to beat Gleeson and Taylor to secure a draw.

Cheltenham C were made to work hard for their 10-0 win against Tirley Tigers. Dave Green, Simon Pratten and Nick Scott all secured maximums, but they were pushed in several matches. Pete Humble just lost out to Scott 15-13 in the fifth, whilst Len Agg and Tony Saxton also took him to five games. Humble also pushed Dave Green to five close sets. After losing the opening game in the doubles, Green and Scott completed a routine victory.

In the Saracens' derby, Tony Iles' Saracens C team emerged 10-0 victors over Saracens D. However Saracens D once again were very unlucky to come away empty handed, especially as they were a player short and took 4 of the 7 games played to 5 sets. Dave Cosnette, in particular, was unlucky to lose 17-15 on a net in the fifth game against Mark Nally. Cosnette also took Niall Pawsey to 5 sets.

Division Three
Tewkesbury B Remain Unbeaten
The clash of two of the stronger sides in the division produced some very close sets as Saracens E defeated Cheltenham E 7-3. Six of the sets went to five games, suggesting that without the brilliant play of Sheila Matthews, who won all of her sets, the result could have been very different. Sheila was well supported by Pete McGeough, and also by Tony Child, who had to come back from two games down to win his two sets.

It was a different matter when Saracens E came up against unbeaten Tewkesbury B who swept them aside in a 10-0 romp. Pete McGeough provided the main resistance, taking all of his sets to five games. For Tewkesbury, Alan Cook maintained his 100% record.

Saracens had better fortune against Winchcombe Eagles in an 8-2 success, with Pete and Tony Child winning all of their sets.

Cheltenham E moved into second place after disposing of Cheltenham F 10-0 and then Winchcombe Eagles 9-1.

The meeting of the two Tewkesbury sides produced a form result, with the B team securing a 9-1 win over their C team. Alan Cook and Michael Maxwell recorded comfortable maximums, with the C team’s sole point coming from Gill Smith who overcame Alison Lockley.

Winchcombe Eagles eased to a 10-0 win over Tewkesbury C, whilst Civil Service had John Downey’s maximum to thank for their 7-3 victory over Cheltenham G.
