Rudford Still In Title Race
Cheltenham B
won their first game for some time with a good 6-4 win over Saracens A.
Junior Milan Dragojlovic continued his run of good form by winning his
second consecutive maximum. Dominic Wynn-Sands also played well to
win two. Cheltenham B sealed the win on the doubles.
A Dave Harvey maximum, two from his son, Michael, and a win in five for Michael and Robert Harvey in the doubles, gave Cheltenham A a narrow 6-4 win over Cirencester. Dave Adamson was Cirencester's best player with two wins.
Both Harry Shahlaei and Jon Atkinson had wins over Bill Dawe on their way to maximums as Cheltenham C beat Chelsea Building Society 8-2.
Rudford made no mistake with a 10-0 win against a weakened Smiths C without Craig Hayward and Jon Marlow. Dave Hope, Alan Smith and Lawrence Symonds all had maximums.

Well Earned Draw For Servicemen
Saracens D
overcame Cheltenham F in a closely fought encounter, 6-4.
Saracens’ Mark Nally was again the pick of the players, gaining a
comfortable maximum with three easy wins. However, Matt Mulcahy and
Alan Harvey both performed well to take braces for Cheltenham,
including a win each over the luckless Tony Iles, who was defeated
11-8 and 12-10 in the fifth set against Mulcahy and Harvey
respectively, having been 2-1 up in both games. In a titanic doubles
contest, Iles and Nally proved just too strong for the
Mulcahy-Harvey combination, winning 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, 10-12, 13-11.
Saracens B completed a routine 9-1 victory over Tirley Tigers thanks to maximums from all three players, Mike Dodwell, Ross Greening and Terry Sims. Tirley’s point was picked up in an impressive four-set doubles win for Elaine Evans and Lesley Dewick over the pairing of Greening and Sims.
Smiths D and CCS A battled out a 5-5 draw in an entertaining contest. Dave Mackman and Chris Ball both won twice for Smiths, while Dave Hart did likewise for CCS A. Hart prevented Mackman from claiming a maximum, defeating him in four sets, whilst an impressive win for Jeremy Turberville prevented Ball from doing the same. Phil King picked up one win for CCS A, but it was ever so nearly two, going down 11-9 to Ball in the fifth. Julie Taylor also won once for Smiths, condemning Turberville to his second defeat of the evening. Hart and King were dominant in the doubles, and their straight sets victory salvaged a draw.
Tewkesbury A returned to winning ways with a 7-3 win over Saracens C. Rob Amphlett completed a maximum in which he was rarely troubled, and was supported by braces from Mike Tyrrell and John Goodchild. Saracens’ points were won by Tony Walsh inflicting defeat upon Goodchild and Martin Cosnette doing likewise against Tyrrell, coming back from 2-1 down to win 11-9 in the fifth. Cosnette joined his brother Dave to win an enthralling doubles contest, emerging from 2-0 down to claim a further important point 11-9 in the fifth.
Winchcombe Wizards and Cheltenham E were both forced to call upon players from lower ranked teams for their exciting 5-5 draw. The star of the evening was Cheltenham’s newly-signed Choi Tzy, who comfortably won all three of her matches, including a convincing win over one of the division’s leading players, Nick Davidson. Davidson and Chris Lane both won twice for Winchcombe, although Lane was pushed all the way in a close match with Christine Williams. Williams did pick up one victory, winning in straight sets against Dick Prior. Prior claimed one win too, overcoming James Bird, who equipped himself well despite the standard of play being far superior to that of his regular weekly matches played in the Third Division. A battling performance ensured that the new combination of Tzy and Williams took the doubles in five sets, securing an unlikely draw against the league leaders.
