Division One
Guy's Faux Pas

Smiths A took serious advantage of their game in hand when they played Chelsea Building Society A this week, winning by the large margin of 8-2. This win now places them at the top of the table by a clear six points. All of the Smiths players performed well, in particular Matt Hartwell who took a maximum including good wins over Bill Dawe and Guy Greening. Matt was well supported by his team mates Nick Mytton and Dave White who contributed two wins each losing only to Bill Dawe. This is thought to be the first time that Guy Greening has lost all three in an evening for over 30 years!

Cheltenham A entertained Saracens A side and took full advantage of a weakened Saracens who unfortunately could only field two players. The star of this game once again was Milan Dragojlovic of Cheltenham A who beat the undefeated Brian McRandal but then went on to beat Roy Fowler for yet another Maximum. Milan was well supported by his team mates, Gordon Shaw and John Atkinson who both won one of the two games they played to register an 8-2 victory.

Winchcombe Cavaliers played Cheltenham C, resulting in a well earned draw that still leaves Cheltenham C languishing at the foot of the table. The scores suggest that everyone got their money's worth with the majority of games being won or lost closely in the fifth game. Graham Browne emerged with a maximum and was well supported by Darrel Wiltshire who contributed the remaining two points for the Cavaliers. Anand Kershav was the star for Cheltenham C winning two singles against Darrel Wiltshire and Craige Norledge and only losing narrowly to Graham Browne in a closely contested fifth game. Dave Green and John Gaskell contributed a point each with John and Anand combining to win the doubles.

Saracens B played Smiths B and emerged winners by the score line of 8-2. Roy Morley and Darren Griffin appear to have been untroubled in winning a maximum each, while Judy Morley clearly not having her best season having just the one victory over Andy Richards. Roy and Darren then combined for an easy doubles win over Andy East and Andy Richards. Andy East appears to have put up some resistance to Roy Morley before Roy stepped up his game to win comfortably in the fourth.

Division Two
Smiths Victorious
Smiths C were victorious as they faced their club rivals Smiths D for the first time this season. However, it was a closely fought contest and there were some good individual performances for both sides. Barrie Pope remained unbeaten on the night for the C team, winning all of his matches with relative ease. Paul Singh picked up a brace for the same team, but Mike Gleeson did likewise for the D team, including an extremely narrow victory over Graham Chandler 12-10, 10-12, 11-13, 11-9, 12-10. Gleeson and Chris Ball picked up a good win in the doubles over Chandler and Pope.

Saracens D raced to an 8-2 win against Cheltenham D thanks to maximums from Mark Nally and Niall Pawsey. Nally won all of his games with relative ease, completing straight sets victories in all three. Pawsey did likewise in two of his matches, but was pushed all the way by Alan Harvey, finally winning 11-9 in the fifth having been two sets to one down. Tony Iles also picked up a brace for Saracens. Matt Mulcahy won Cheltenham’s only singles contest of the night, but then combined excellently with Harvey to win the doubles and maintain their 100% partnership record, the best in the division.

Division Three
Tigers Maul Eagles
James Bird continued his run of form, winning all three of his sets in Cheltenham G’s 7-3 defeat of Cheltenham J. James was well supported by John Terry and Andy Smith who won two each, but James and Andy were edged out in a five game doubles by Sean Whitelow and Matt Roberts.

The two front runners emphasised their superiority with emphatic wins. Both Saracens F and Tirley Tigers remain unbeaten, with Saracens leading the pack by just 3 points.

Tirley Tigers tore into Winchcombe Eagles, securing a 10-0 victory, led by Pete Humble who gained his maximum without dropping a game. This was, however, not so much a below par performance from Eagles, but rather a top notch one from Tigers.

Saracens F overcame Cheltenham G 9-1, with Tony Walsh and Dave Cosnette winning all three of their sets. They encountered resistance from James Bird however, who beat Dave Foulser, and took Tony Walsh and Dave Cosnette to four games. John Terry and Andy Smith were very unlucky to come away from the match empty handed as both played well, but were beaten by the more experienced Saracens team.

Tewkesbury C outgunned Chelsea B 8-2. John Teare won all three of his sets, and was supported by Gill Smith and Roger Tyrell who won two each. Jason Harwood picked up the points for Chelsea.

Although Saracens F maintained their unbeaten run, they were made to work hard for their 9-1 win over Cheltenham F. Whilst Tony Walsh won all of his sets in three games, most of the others went to four or five games. The Cheltenham youngsters got their reward in a long doubles where Dominic James and Chris James teamed up to beat Dave Foulser and Dave Cosnette 2-11, 11-7, 11-9, 10-12,13-11.

Civil Service B and Cheltenham J were both still looking for their first win of the season, and it was Civil Service who triumphed 6-4, but they were pushed all the way by the young Cheltenham side, for whom Matt Roberts won all three of his sets. The doubles typified the match, with Alan Thomas and Geoff Foster coming back from two games down to pip Matt Roberts and Andy Sutherland 5-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-4 12-10.
