Royals Reach New Standard
Welcome everyone both old and new to
the 2008/2009 Table Tennis season. Firstly I need to apologise for a somewhat
unreliable service last year which was due to injury and a bout of ill health.
Fortunately I am now fighting fit, looking forward to a better season than last
year from both a player and administrative perspective. I have waffled long
enough, good luck to everyone in your 2009/2010 season, I wish you all the best
except when you are playing me of course.
Chelsea Building Society (Guy Greening, Dave Metcalfe, Simon Moysey) entertained Winchcombe Royals (Choi Sze To, Nick Davidson, Stuart Greene) this week where a score line of 8-2 in favour of Winchcombe does not reflect how close this match was. The new slim line Chelsea players were incredibly unlucky against the Winchcombe trio who obviously had not got much exercise during the close season and had clearly ate too many pies. Chelsea's nimble looking Dave Metcalfe and Simon Moysey were particularly unlucky to lose all three as they were all over the opposition, catching Choi Sze To and Nick Davidson in the fat zone on numerous occasions. However, the Winchcombe players dug deep and were able to squeeze out a very narrow victory. Chelsea's two points were won by Guy Greening with a win over Nick and Stuart, but was unable to overcome Choi Sze To who was the star of the evening winning a nice hatrick of games.
Cheltenham 'B' (Nick Smale, Dominic James, Anand Keshav) played Winchcombe Roamers (Nick Mytton, Doug Payne, Matt Hartwell) in a closely fought game that saw the Roamers squeak a narrow victory. Nick Smale had an excellent hatrick of wins for CTTC, supported by Anand who looks to have been a little unlucky in only securing the one point against 'old boy' Doug Payne.
Lakeside 'A' (Roy Fowler, Paul Smythe, Suzy Robinson) entertained Cheltenham 'A' (Mike Harvey, Chris Hewitt, Russell Hayward) at the Cheltenham College due to Lakeside being unavailable. Even without Dave Harvey, CTTC were still too good and inflicted a whitewash defeat upon the Lakesiders. Only Suzy Robinson troubled them and could easily have won two, but unfortunately faded badly in the fifth to both Chris and Mike.
Winchcombe Cavaliers (Chris Pearce, Craig Norledge, Rob Sinderberry) entertained Cirencester (Howard Williams, Rob Willsher, Dave Adamson) in a closely fought match that ended in the spoils being shared with an inevitable draw. Dave Adamson was undefeated for Cirencester, supported by Howard Williams who chipped in with two for the draw. The Cavaliers Chris Pearce had two good wins over Howard and Rob but was unable to overcome the strength of Dave Adamson. Chris was supported by his Cavalier team mates Craig and Rob who both enjoyed one win each over Rob Willsher. The Cavaliers Chris and Craig then combined in the doubles to secure the draw with another good win over Adamson and Willsher.
