Trample Smiths
Smiths A entertained Winchcombe
Wizards and came away with the majority of the points. Cho Sze To of
the Wizards provided the most resistance taking a good two wins
from Nick Mytton and Mark Bilsborrow and only lost the other in a close four
games to the in form Matt Hartwell. Keith Ferguson of the Wizards
provided some resistance against Matt Hartwell before losing in four games.
Smiths B played Winchcombe Cavaliers who seem to have found some form winning the match by an easy margin. However, the scoreline does not seem to reflect the games as it looks to have been a hard fought affair. Guy Bridgewater of the Cavaliers won his first games of the season, and took a maximum, but only after narrowly beating Smiths Andy Richards 11-9 in a deciding game. Luke Moffat of the Cavaliers had a reasonably easy passage to his maximum and was well supported by Craig Norledge who won two, losing only to Andy Richards of Smiths for their only point of the evening.
Saracens A played Chelsea A in a match that saw Bill Dawe of the Chelsea win his three sets comfortably, and was well supported by Dominic Wynn-Sands who also played very well to take a maximum. Roy Fowler and Suzy Robinson of Saracens both beat Simon Moysey, although Simon took Roy the distance losing deuce in the deciding game. Richard and Suzy of the Saracens then combined to win a good doubles against Bill and Simon.
Cheltenham B
comprising of the Harvey family played Saracens B who have
strengthened their side with the signing of Andy Maybe who made his debut.
Despite suffering from a heavy cold, Mike Harvey of Cheltenham B
had a good maximum although he was taken the full distance by Andy Maybe and
Alan Smith. Against Alan Smith, Mike recovered from two sets down to win in
the decider. Robert Harvey also played well to wind two of his three matches
which included an excellent win over Andy Maybe (a former Stroud Open Singles
Champion). Old man Harvey was untroubled in winning all of his games.

Cheltenham Cook Tewkesbury
Cheltenham D
cruised to an emphatic 10-0 win over Tewkesbury B. Straight set maximums
for Alan Harvey and Chris James led the way. Alan Cook offered the only
resistance for Tewkesbury, taking a single set off Matt Mulcahy, although
this did not prevent him from winning his three games. The doubles was a close
contest, but Harvey and Mulcahy kept up their unbeaten record and recorded
Cheltenham’s thirteenth consecutive doubles victory, winning 11-9, 11-9,
16-14.
Saracens C overcame Tewkesbury A in a hard-fought 6-4 win. Mike Dodwell claimed yet another maximum, including a second victory over Rob Amphlett this season in a memorable match of attacking and counter-attacking play. Amphlett won twice for Tewkesbury, whilst the remaining players on both sides won once each. Perhaps the turning point of the game was Terry Sims’ five-set win over Simon Lockley 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9 which took the match to the doubles, with Saracens leading 5-4. Lockley and Mike Tyrrell were not quite strong enough to outfox Dodwell and his partner Ross Greening as they lost the doubles in four close sets.
Smiths C raced to a 9-1 win over Saracens D, although the score line does not reflect the closeness of this match. Maximums for Paul Singh and Chris White led the way, although White had to come back from 2-1 down to beat Neil Penny in the fifth. Barrie Pope won twice and combined well with Singh to win the doubles. Saracens’ only success came from Niall Pawsey’s 11-9 five-set win over Pope.
