Division Three
Eagles Take Early Flight

Winchcombe Eagles kicked off their season with a 7-3 win over Cheltenham G, but it was Cheltenham’s James Bird who stole the show, winning all three of his sets.

Chelsea B, making their entrance into the League, won by the same score against Cheltenham J, who were one player short.

Newly relegated Saracens F emerged as 7-3 winners, overcoming Civil Service B. There were, however, some very close sets, typified by the doubles in which Saracen’s Dave Foulser and Dave Cosnette edged out Geoff Foster and Rob Browning 20-18 in the fifth.

Despite a maximum for Tewkesbury’s Mike Maxwell, the overall strength of Tirley Tigers won the day with a 6-4 victory. Maxwell was pushed hard by Elaine Evans who was edged out 11-9 in the fifth game.

Cheltenham F were too strong for Chelsea B. Matt Williams and Dominic James led the way with three wins each. Chelsea’s only success came from John Hoole.

Saracens F continued their good start to the season with an 8-2 win over Winchcombe Eagles. Tony Walsh claimed his second maximum for Saracens, while Tiffany Hopton registered two good wins over Dave Cosnette and Dave Foulser to gain the Eagles only points.
