Division One
Cheltenham A Lead The Way
Cirencester 'B' played Winchcombe Roamers in a match that saw a heavy defeat for Cirencester whose only points were won with a hatrick of wins from the unbeaten Darren Griffin. Winchcombe's Nick Mytton, Doug Payne and Matt Hartwell all won their other games fairly comprehensively over Cirencesters' Barry Turner and Jack Collins.

Lakeside 'A' played Winchcombe Cavaliers in a match that saw the Lakesider's struggling again and suffering a fairly heavy and slightly surprising defeat. The Lakesider's Roy Fowler won two games supported by Pete Wood who chipped in with one for their only three points of the evening. The Cavaliers Choi Sze To was pretty much untroubled in her treble of wins, and was supported by Stuart Green who played well to win two and Darrell Wiltshire who chipped in with one.

Cheltenham 'A' played Cheltenham 'B'  in a match that saw Dave Harvey struggling once again to field his strongest side, but still seems destined to win the title for the second year in a row. CTTC 'A' were represented once again by the Harvey family, this time Dave, Mike and Brother Alan who kindly stepped up so that CTTC 'A' could field a full side. CTTC 'B' were represented by Simon Pratten, Dominic James and Jon Gaskell who each enjoyed a win over Alan Harvey for their only three points of the evening.

Cirencester 'A' played Cheltenham 'A' in a match that saw Cheltenham 'A' fielding their strongest side and in Cirencester's own words handed out a ten games to nil thrashing. To be fair, the score card seems to suggest some closely contested games that with a little bit of luck may have gone either way. Cheltenham 'A' represented by Chris Hewitt, Dave Harvey, Mike Harvey all enjoyed maximum wins over Cirencester 'A' represented by Rob Willsher, Mike Kiff and Howard Williams.

Cirencester 'A' played Cheltenham 'B'  in a match that clearly took place a few weeks ago, the comment on the score card said "lost in Bag" but the result appears to have been a draw! Cirencester represented by Rob Willsher, Howard Williams and Gordon Shaw pretty much shared the points between them with Howard winning two, supported by Rob and Gordon who each chipped in with one. CTTC 'B''s Nick Smale enjoyed a fine hatrick of wins over Cirencester, he was well supported by Simon Pratten who won two losing out only to Howard Williams. Dominic James despite having close games lost all of his singles.

Cheltenham 'B' played Cheltenham 'A' in yet another re-arranged match. On this occasion, CTTC 'A' were able to once again field their strongest side comprising Dave Harvey, Mike Harvey and Chris Hewitt and enjoy a comfortable whitewash over CTTC 'B' who were represented by Simon Pratten, Jon Gasgell and Dominic James.

Division Two
Tewkesbury's Double Triumph
Cheltenham C kept up their fine run of form with an 8-2 win over Cleeve Saracens B. Maximums for Dave Green and Anand Keshav led the way and Martin Smith won twice. Green had to work hard for his maximum, winning twice in five sets, defeating Tony Iles 15-17, 15-17, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6 and Mark Nally 11-9, 12-10, 4-11, 9-11, 11-4. Nally claimed Cleeve Saracens B’s only singles win and combined with Neil Penny to complete an impressive five-set doubles win over Green and Keshav.

Lakeside B stormed to a 9-1 win over Winchcombe Warriors. Andy East and Andy Richards claimed maximums while Ken Smith grabbed a brace. Mike Vick picked up the Warriors’ solitary point with a four-set win over Smith. The only match to go to a deciding fifth set was the doubles. East and Richards scraped to victory 7-11, 11-4, 4-11, 12-10, 12-10 against Ray Griffiths and Vick.

Lakeside D stormed to a 9-1 win over two-man Cleeve Saracens A. Chris Ball and Trevor Oliver won both of their matches while Mike Gleeson won one. Terry Sims picked up Cleeve Saracens A’s only point with a four-set defeat of Gleeson.

After a poor start to the match, Tewkesbury A moved up a gear to defeat close rivals Cheltenham D 7-3 and claim some important points. This was in main thanks to Rob Amphlett’s comfortable maximum, although Alan Cook also won twice and was unlucky not to win all three. Alan Harvey played well to defeat Cook, finally overcoming him 11-8 in the fifth set. Harvey and Matt Mulcahy picked up Cheltenham D’s other points by both comfortably defeating Mike Tyrrell in straight sets. Tyrrell made amends by beating Linda Probert and pairing up with Cook to defeat Harvey and Mulcahy in the doubles.

Winchcombe Wizards raced to a 10-0 whitewash of Cheltenham D. Keith Ferguson was in emphatic form, winning all of his games in straight sets, conceding just 31 points in 9 sets all night! Jacqui Carver and Nick Davidson also claimed maximums for Winchcombe Wizards, although they were made to work a little harder, particularly Carver, who came back from 2-1 down to defeat Matt Mulcahy 11-9 in the fifth set.

Cleeve Saracens A did just enough to gain victory by a 6-4 margin over Tewkesbury A. Mike Dodwell just came through to beat Rob Amphlett in a fast counter attacking first match that was to set the tone for the evening. Dodwell was pushed to the wire by an extremely fearless Alan Cook to scrape a win in the fifth game and completed his maximum by beating Mike Tyrrell. Ross Greening was out of luck in losing to a stylish Amphlett who won two matches for Tewkesbury A. Tewkesbury A salvaged another point in winning a tense and competitive doubles.

Winchcombe Wizards hurried to a 9-1 win over Cleeve Saracens B. Nick Davidson and Chris Lane both claimed maximums whilst Jacqui Carver won twice. Tony Iles picked up an impressive straight sets win over Carver for Cleeve Saracens B.

Tewkesbury A showed little mercy to their club counterparts sat firmly at the bottom of the table as they claimed a slightly fortuitous 8-2 win over Tewkesbury B. Maximums for Rob Amphlett and Mike Tyrrell and a brace for Alan Cook did the damage. Tewkesbury B’s solitary singles win came via John Goodchild, who defeated Cook in four sets. Goodchild was unlucky to lose to both Amphlett and Tyrrell in five sets and Simon Lockley went down in five to both Cook (11-9, 11-9, 13-15, 7-11, 9-11) and Tyrrell (13-11, 10-12, 8-11, 13-11, 8-11). Half the matches on the evening went to five sets and an incredible 17 games went to deuce. Goodchild and Lockley combined to win a very close doubles contest, coming back from 2-0 down to secure the win in five tight sets (8-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-6, 13-11).

Tewkesbury B claimed an outstanding 6-4 win over high-flying Lakeside D. Lakeside D’s Trevor Oliver was the best performer on the night, claiming a hard-fought maximum. Indeed, he needed five sets to defeat Michaal Maxwell and had to come back from 2-0 down to defeat John Goodchild in five. Goodchild and Maxwell both picked up excellent wins over Mike Gleeson and Julie Taylor. Dave Watson chipped in with one win. Gleeson will consider himself unfortunate in a very tight match with Maxwell, whilst Taylor suffered two five-set defeats, losing a particularly close encounter against Watson 13-11 in the fifth. True to form in a very close match, Goodchild and Maxwell scraped the doubles, defeating Gleeson and Oliver 11-7, 11-6, 10-12, 7-11, 11-9 to complete a very satisfying victory indeed.

Winchcombe Wizards stormed to a 9-1 win over two-man CCS A, whose third player got stuck in an emergency job at work at the very last minute. Chris Lane and Stewart Ratcliffe won both of their matches; CCS A’s solitary point came via Steve Murton’s victory over Jacqui Carver.

Lakeside C completed an 8-2 win over Cheltenham D thanks to a maximum from Graham Chandler and braces from Barrie Pope and Chris White. Matt Mulcahy put in a sterling performance for Cheltenham D, winning twice, including a narrow but very entertaining victory over White, 11-9 in the fifth. He was unlucky not to come away with a maximum, having led 2-0 against the resolute Chandler.

Lakeside C continued their winning run with a 6-4 win over CCS A. However, it was CCS A’s Dave Hart who was in stunning form on his way to a relatively comfortable maximum, although Graham Chandler did push him to five sets. Chandler, Barrie Pope and Chris White all claimed braces to ensure victory. Hart and Phil King claimed another valuable point for CCS A as they thrashed Chandler and Pope in the doubles.

Lakeside B kept up their promotion hopes with a 10-0 whitewash of Cheltenham D. Maximums for Andy East, Andy Richards and Ken Smith came with relative ease, although Matt Mulcahy did win a couple of games. 8 out of the 10 matches were won in straight sets by the Lakeside B trio and it moved them back into second place in the table.

Division Three
Servicemen Win Cheltenham
Jeremy Turberville and Rob Browning led Civil Service B to a 7-3 win over Cheltenham E, with three wins each, although the scoreline does not reflect the fact that some of their victories were by the narrowest of margins. Two of Rob’s matches went to five sets, as did one of Jeremy’s, but on each occasion they came out on top.

Tirley Tigers completed a form victory over Cheltenham H without dropping a game.

Tirley Tigers had to work harder however, against a Cheltenham G side who acquitted themselves very well. Although going down 3-7, the Cheltenham trio of Simon James, Mike Robertson and Jon Laramy each won a set, whilst Pete Humble kept up his impressive form to see Tirley safely through.

Old Saracens completed a 9-1 win against bottom placed Cheltenham H. The Cheltenham side’s single victory was thanks to Rob Starling who came out on top 11-3, 11-13, 12-10, 12-10 against John Adcock.

Cheltenham F did not have their strongest side out against Cheltenham E, who took full advantage in a 10-0 win.

Simon James led Cheltenham G to an 8-2 success over Cheltenham H, winning all of his sets in three straight games. Rob Starling picked up two wins for the H side.

Mike Brook showed impressive form for Cheltenham F, completing a maximum against Old Saracens, who squeezed through as 6-4 winners. Only two sets went to five games, Saracen’s Tony Child just outwitting Andrew Sutherland, whose team mate Tom Parry got the better of John Adcock.

Cleeve Eagles had to be content with a draw against Civil Service B, whose team included Jeremy Turberville and Rob Browning. Jeremy won all of his sets, with Rob adding two more. Tiffany Hopton and Dan Crook squared the match by winning the doubles for the Eagles.
