Smiths March On Past Cavaliers
Smiths A are looking in fine form after another maximum 10-0 win
against Winchcombe Cavaliers. Guy Bridgwater
(Cavaliers) played well to take a game off Nick Mytton and then pushed
Mark Bilsborrow to a deciding game before losing narrowly 11-9 in the fifth.
Darrell Wiltshire also played well to take a game off both the in form Nick
Mytton and Mark Bilsborrow. Smiths A are currently lying second
in the table with a game in hand having gained the maximum 30 points from
their three matches and trail Cheltenham Table Tennis Club B
who head the table by a narrow margin of 2 points.
The two Saracen's (A & B) sides clashed this week and fought out a closely contended 5-5 draw. Brian McRandal of Saracens A was untroubled in winning all of his singles. All of the remaining players from both sides got their money's worth with closely fought games that look as they could have gone either way making a 5-5 draw look quite fair.
Cheltenham A and B clashed this week in a local derby that saw the B side (comprising the Harvey family) winning the match by 7-3. Young Robert Harvey was in magnificent form, winning more games than his experienced brother Mike. Both John Atkinson and Dan Kolesnik of Cheltenham A played well to beat Mike Harvey but then young Robert Harvey of Cheltenham B angered by his brothers defeat stepped up his game and took Harvey revenge by beating both John Atkinson and Dan Kolesnik. The old man (Dave Harvey) of Cheltenham B again won all of his singles but was hard pressed by the young but experienced Milan Dragojlovic who lost in a close five set match.
Cheltenham C entertained Winchcombe Wizards and probably wished they hadn't, losing the match 9-1. The match looks to have been a straight forward affair with the majority of games having been won comfortably by the Wizards. Keith Ferguson of the Wizards lost the only game of the evening to John Gaskell of Cheltenham C. This was a closely contested affair with John eventually winning 11-7 in the decider.

Division Two
Full Strength Sara's Beat Tewkesbury
Cheltenham D enjoyed a 6-4 victory over
Saracens E, largely thanks to an impressive maximum from Alan
Harvey. His three wins, along with two from
Chris James, helped
Cheltenham towards the win; the two players then combined well to
win the deciding doubles to take the match. Pete McGeough was
Saracens’ top performer.
Saracens D fielded three players for the first time this season as they eased to a 9-1 victory against Tewkesbury B. Niall Pawsey was in commanding form, completing a comfortable maximum, whilst Tony Iles was equally impressive in winning all three of his singles matches. The in-form Neil Penny found it harder going though, but he persevered to win twice. Tom Urbanski and Ali Lockley were both unlucky to lose 11-9 in the fifth set to Penny, whilst Wayne Lippett overcame him in four sets to secure Tewkesbury’s only point.
Winchcombe Warriors completed a comfortable 7-3 victory over out of form Tewkesbury A. Richard Bishop was again the pick of the players, winning all three, including a tenacious five-set victory over Rob Amphlett, having been two sets to one down. Mike Vick chipped in with a good brace, whilst Dave MacIntosh won once. Bishop and Vick proved too strong for Amphlett and John Goodchild in the doubles.
