Report For 13/12/05
Division
One
All Square In Top Battle
The clash between the top two team in division one ended all square with a 5-5
draw. Rudford have Darren Griffin, playing in only his
second match to that for the result, as it was his maximum that saved the game
for them. Matt Hartwell gave Darren a scare though, taking him to
five and just losing 12-10. Nick Mytton and Doug Payne both won
two each for Smiths A.
Cheltenham B cruised to a 10-0 win against lowly Smiths C with maximums for Milan Dragojlovic, Judy Morley and Sam White. Craig Hayward put up some stern resistance for Smiths but could not save his team from the whitewash.
Smiths B suffered another big defeat as Saracens A beat them 9-1 with three wins for Roy Fowler and Suzy Robinson. Andy East gained their solitary set with a 12-10 win in the fifth over Pete Wood.
A Guy Greening maximum was all in vain as Chelsea B.S. went down to a 7-3 defeat against a strong Cirencester side. Dave Adamson, Dave Lloyd and Gordon Shaw all won two each in a good all round team effort.
Cheltenham C extended their unbeaten run to five matches with a big 10-0 win against Winchcombe Cavaliers that saw Jon Atkinson, Harry Shahlaei and Laurence Shahlaei all winning three each.

Division Two
Chris On The Ball For Smiths
Smiths D
edged to a 6-4 win over Saracens D, thanks largely to a
maximum from Chris Ball. Mike Gleeson chipped in with two wins
and then combined with Ball to win an exciting doubles which claimed
the win. Tony Iles picked up a brace for Saracens,
whilst Mark Nally and Neil Penny won once each.
Cheltenham F overcame Tewkesbury A 6-4 in a closely fought encounter. Alan Harvey was the pick of the players claiming a maximum, including an impressive fight back against John Goodchild having been 2-0 down. Matt Mulcahy won twice for Cheltenham, albeit through two five-setters against Goodchild and Simon Lockley. Mike Tyrrell was in good form for Tewkesbury, claiming a brace. The match was to be decided in the doubles and Mulcahy and Harvey sealed it, winning 14-12 in the fifth. A long and tense night!
Cheltenham D continued their winning ways with an 8-2 victory over improving Saracens C. John Gaskell claimed yet another maximum, winning all three of his games without dropping a set. Mike Fry and Dave Green both won twice, and the Gaskell Green combination was easily victorious yet again in the doubles. Martin Cosnette played well to defeat Fry and an injured Dave Foulser will be extremely pleased with his four-set win over Green.
CCS A claimed a morale-boosting 8-2 win over Tirley Tigers. Dave Hart continued his run of impressive form, with three straight sets victories. He was well supported by Steve Murton and Jeremy Turberville who both won twice. Elaine Evans picked up another good win, comfortably defeating Murton in straight sets and she was unlucky in a titanic battle with Turberville, who played extremely well, losing 12-10, 6-11, 8-11, 16-14, 10-12. Tony Saxton picked up his first win of the season, beating Turberville in five and preventing him from gaining his first maximum of the season.
Winchcombe Wizards continued their impressive form with an 8-2 win over Saracens B. Nick Davidson gained yet another maximum, although he was troubled by Ross Greening and Mike Dodwell. Stewart Ratcliffe and Chris Lane won twice each, Ratcliffe losing in straight sets to Terry Sims, whilst Dodwell edged Lane out 11-9 in the fifth. Davidson and Ratcliffe claimed the doubles in straight sets, although they were close.
Winchcombe Warriors continued their recent run of impressive form with a 6-4 win over Cheltenham E. Richard Bishop claimed yet another maximum, although he was pushed particularly hard by the fast-improving Andy Dyke, edging him out 11-9 in the fifth having been 2 sets to 1 down. Mike Vick picked up two wins for Winchcombe; including an impressive five set win over Christine Williams. Dyke picked up two wins for Cheltenham, whilst Williams and Siben Li picked up one each. The deciding doubles was won easily by the pairing of Vick and Bishop to claim the win for the Warriors.
