All Set For A Photo Finish
Three wins for Harry Shahlaei
and two from John Atkinson helped Cheltenham C gain a 6-4
win against top of the table Smiths A. Doug Payne did well
for Smiths by winning two games. This result brings
Cheltenham within 5 points of Smiths, and means that with
only one match left until the end of the season, the title is still up for
grabs.
Rudford A completed a good 8-2 victory against Saracens A to keep their hopes alive, and are just two points behind Cheltenham C in third place. Darren Griffin, making a rare appearance for Rudford, together with Aled Howell both had maximums.
Winchcombe Cavaliers had to thank a Luke Moffat maximum for their narrow 6-4 win over a battling Smiths C side. Graham Brown also chipped in with two, but was beaten by Smiths best player, Craig Hayward, who also beat Nick Davidson, who was playing up a division.
Chelsea had their strongest side out for some time but still went down 7-3 to Cheltenham A. Dave and Michael Harvey were in top form and both beat Bill Dawe and Guy Greening on their way to maximums.
Smiths B remain firmly routed to the bottom of the table after Dave Adamson, Dave Lloyd and Gordon Shaw gave Cirencester a 10-0 win.

All Square In Saracens Derby
Saracens C and
Saracens D fought out a hard-earned 5-5 draw. Mark Nally's
maximum and Tony Iles's brace accounted for all of the D
team's points. The C team battled hard and Dave Cosnette
impressed with two good wins, including a five-set marathon victory over
Iles. Martin Cosnette and Tony Walsh both chipped in with
one win each. The Cosnette brothers were in impressive form in the
doubles, overcoming Iles and Nally in three comfortable sets.
Cheltenham F also claimed a draw against CCS A.
Alan Harvey was the pick of the players, continuing his good form by
claiming a maximum. Steve Murton and Dave Hart both won twice
for CCS A, whilst Matt Mulcahy and Richard Gummow
each chipped in with one win for Cheltenham. The deciding
doubles went CCS A's way in four sets, with the combination of
Hart and Murton proving to be just too strong for Harvey
and Mulcahy.
Smiths D claimed a good 7-3 win over Tirley Tigers,
thanks largely to a maximum from Julie Taylor. Her three victories
included two five set wins. Dave Mackman and Chris Ball both
took braces as Smiths took control of the game. A rejuvenated
Pete Humble won twice for Tirley, and almost saw off
Taylor. He then combined with Elaine Evans to win the doubles
comfortably 11-7, 11-2, 11-8.
Cheltenham E recorded an impressive 7-3 win over third-placed
Saracens B. Maximums for Christine Williams and the
impressive Choi Tzy decided the match. Tzy is a player of the
highest quality, but perhaps Williams' performance on the night was
the most impressive, defeating three players above her in the averages,
including Mike Dodwell. Dodwell, Ross Greening and
Terry Sims all won once each, but then Tzy and Williams
combined to win a tight doubles encounter in five sets.
Winchcombe Warriors and Tewkesbury A also
contrived to draw in a closely fought match. Rob Amphlett won all
three for Tewkesbury and Simon Lockley and Mike
Tyrrell chipped in with one win each. John Teare won twice for
Winchcombe, whilst Dick Prior and Mike Vick claimed
one point each. In the deciding doubles, Teare and Vick edged
out Lockley and Tyrrell 7-11, 12-10, 11-7, 12-14, 11-7.

Saracens March Towards Title
The dividing line between
success and failure is sometimes narrow, which was demonstrated in
Saracen E's 9-1 victory over Winchombe
Eagles, where five of the sets went to five games, all of them won
by Saracens.
Saracens E accumulated further points at the expense of Cheltenham J in a 10-0 win.
Tewkesbury B did not have things all their own way in a 7-3 victory over Cheltenham G. Although Wayne Lippett and Tom Urbanski won all of their sets, Chris Foster, Karl Foster and Sean Whitelow each gained one win for the Cheltenham side.
Alan Cook and Sam Tennant achieved maximums for Tewkesbury C against Cheltenham M in a 7-3 win, and John Terry and James Bird did likewise for Cheltenham J, who beat Cheltenham H by the same score.
