Report For 14/10/09

Division One
Harvey's Hassle B Side

Cirencester
(Rob Willsher, Howard Williams, Dave Adamson) entertained Lakeside (Pete Wood, Rich Moores, Paul Smythe) this week in a fairly one sided match where Cirencester emerged the winners, dropping just the one point. Dave (The Net) Adamson and Howard (On Fire) Williams were largely untroubled in winning all of their games. Rob (On Last Legs) Willsher did not find the going quite so easy despite a fairly comfortable victory over Pete Wood in the first game of the evening. Rob was pushed to the limit by both Rich Moores and Paul Smythe and succumbed to the latter in the fifth game which proved to be Lakesiders only win of the evening.

Winchcombe Roamers (Doug Payne, Nick Mytton, Matt Hartwell) entertained the Chelsea Building Society (Bill Dawe, Simon Moysey, Guy Greening) this week, in a match that ended in a 7-3 win for the Roamers.

Cheltenham 'A' (Mike Harvey, Dave Harvey, Russell Hayward) played Cheltenham 'B' (Nick Smale, Jon Gaskell, Anand Keshav) in a derby match that was dominated by the Harvey's and resulted in a fairly heavy defeat for the 'B' side. Nick Smale and Anand Keshav beat Russell Hayward for the 'B' sides only two points of the evening.

Chelsea Building Society (Guy Greening, Dave Metcalfe, Bill Dawe) entertained Cheltenham 'A' (Mike Harvey, Rob Harvey, Barry Turner) in a match where Rob Harvey certainly put the "wind" up the Chelsea taking both Guy Greening and Bill Dawe to a deciding game before having the "wind" taken out of his sails losing both games narrowly in the fifth. It needs to be said that Rob was very entrepreneurial in the tactics he used in trying to overcome Greening. Cheltenham's points were pretty much a team affair, each of them beating Dave Metcalfe with Mike Harvey chipping in an additional win over Greening.

Division Three
Vikings Sail Past Servicemen
In a very close match, Cheltenham G just got the better of Cheltenham F, thanks to a trio of wins from Simon James. For the F side, Mike Brown was making his return after a five year absence, and Max Kelly did well to secure a win in his first league match.

Winchcombe Vikings’ first opposition of the season were Civil Service B, and Dick Prior led the Vikings to a useful 8-2 victory, securing a maximum in the process.

Cheltenham E eased into the season with a 10-0 win over Cheltenham H and may have had expectations of a further victory over Cheltenham F. In a shock reversal however, it was the F side who came out on top, shading a very close contest 6-4. Mike Robertson narrowly overcame James Bird, winning 12-10 in the fifth game, and Tom Warner in his first senior league match, pipped John Terry 11-7 in a five game thriller. Almost inevitably the doubles went the full distance, with the F side clinching victory 6-11, 11-3, 13-11, 10-12, 11-9.

Cleeve Eagles were down to two players for their match against Winchcombe Vikings, but overcame this hiccup to secure a 5-5- draw. Making his debut for the Eagles, Joe Seed led the way with a maximum, but Vikings won the doubles to ensure that the points were shared.
