Harvey Loses 100%
Smiths B entertained Cheltenham A this week and probably wished
they hadn't after losing by 10-0. Most of the games look to have been a straight
forward affair, although Ken Smith took a game off John Atkinson as did Andy
East against Gordon Shaw.
Saracens A played Cheltenham B in a match that saw the loss of Dave Harvey's 100% record. This was a rare match where both the Harvey boys (Michael and Robert) enjoyed the same success as their Father where all three of them won two games a piece to register a 6-4 win. The star of this match Brian McRandal who claimed a hatrick of wins and played exceptionally well against Dave Harvey making some devastating returns to eventually win 11-8 in the deciding game. Brian then combined with Suzy Robinson to win take the doubles.
Smiths A played Saracens B that saw the loss of a couple more 100% records, those of Doug Payne and Mark Bilsborrow at the hands of the talented Darren Griffin who maintains his unbeaten record. Darren then combined with Alan Smith to win the doubles but were unable to prevent Smiths from taking the match by the margin of 6-4, although it has somewhat stalled their march towards the title.
Cheltenham C played Chelsea Building Society who were unfortunately a player short. However, the performance of Dave Metcalfe and Dominic Wynn-Sands for Chelsea was excellent, with both players winning a maximum and then combining to win the doubles and the match by 7-3. The performance of Dave Metcalfe was particularly impressive being devastating in both attack and defence to win his first games of the season. Apparently this performance was due to an extra pie for dinner, so our advice to Dave is keep eating the pies.

Tewkesbury B Locked Out
CCS A were convincing 8-2
winners against Saracens E. Steve Murton was in fine form, claiming a
maximum, and he was well supported by braces from Dave Hart and Jon Nixon. Pete
McGeough performed excellently for Saracens, winning twice. Murton and
Nixon condemned McGeough and John Adcock to defeat in four sets in the doubles.
Saracens E went down by the same score line to club counterparts, Saracens D. Tony Iles and Mark Nally were in unstoppable form for the D team, both claiming maximums, whilst Niall Pawsey chipped in with one win. John Adcock and Roy North won once each for the E team, both overcoming Pawsey. The Iles-Nally combination was far too strong in the doubles, in which they won in straight sets.
Saracens C defeated CCS A by a score line of 6-4. However, the star performer of the evening was CCS A’s Dave Hart, who scored a maximum with a display of predominantly attacking play interspersed with some stout defending. Mike Dodwell, Ross Greening and Den Wadley all won twice each for Saracens, but they were unable to add to their tally in the doubles. CCS A’s effective and so far unbeaten combination of Hart and Steve Murton edged the doubles in the fifth set to bolster their score to four wins on the night.
Tewkesbury A emerged victorious in the first all Tewkesbury clash of the season against Tewkesbury B. Rob Amphlett won his three games emphatically without dropping a game. He was well supported by Simon Lockley who won twice. Wayne Lippett and Alan Cook both picked up impressive wins over John Goodchild for the B team, whilst Ali Lockley overcame Simon in five sets in the first marital match of the season. No flying saucepans or wild rolling pins then! Lockley and Amphlett overcame Cook and Lippett in the doubles to complete the win.

Carey Maisey and Mike
Brook each scored maximums for Cheltenham H as they beat Chelsea B
7-3. For Chelsea, Neil Gurney, John Hoole and Jason Harwood won a set
each.
Derek Brown led Winchcombe Eagles to an 8-2 win over Civil Service B, winning all three of his sets in three games.
Cheltenham J played well against Saracens F, but could not prevent the leaders coming out on top with a 9-1 victory. The Cheltenham side secured their point when Saracen’s Tony Walsh sustained a leg injury and was unable to participate in his final set.
Chris Foster chose a tough fixture in which to make his first appearance of the season for Cheltenham F, who narrowly lost 6-4 to Tewkesbury C. Strangely with such a close scoreline, each of the ten sets were completed in three games. Mike Maxwell continued his excellent run with another maximum, supported by John Teare who won two. For Cheltenham, the improving Karl Foster scored a notable victory over John Teare, narrowly winning 12-10, 12-10,11-9.
