Report For 15/11/07

I would like to canvas opinions on a player of the week award - the winners of which would have the extreme privilege of each buying me a pint at the presentation evening. Your views on this would be appreciated. In the hope of this award being agreed, my very first weeks nomination is Robert Harvey and because it will probably be Dave Harvey subsidising, I will have a Double Whisky on this occasion!

Note to team captains: Come on, pull your fingers out and get these score cards to me more promptly. The advantage in doing so may result at the very least some comments on the CTTA Web-site regarding your performance.

Robert Scores Maximum
Newlands Park played Cheltenham Table Tennis Club A this week which resulted in what must be the heaviest defeat for Newlands that I have ever known, losing the match 9-1. The star of this match without any doubt was the ever improving young Robert Harvey who achieved a fine maximum against the side that won the league in 2006. Robert had a tough encounter with Nick Mytton finally winning in closely contested deciding set and won his other two singles comfortably in straight sets. Robert's fine performance was well supported with a maximum by his old man Dave Harvey and Alex Kearney who contributed two. Amazingly Matt Hartwell and Doug Payne of Newlands did not win a set against the strength of the CTTC 'A', while Nick Mytton despite losing to Robert enjoyed a fine win over Alex Kearney for Newlands Park only point of the evening.

Cheltenham B entertained Cirencester this week in a match that saw numerous closely contested games where the final score could have been very different to how it turned out. The ever improving Milan Dragojlovic of Cheltenham B maintained his one hundred percent record with three fairly comfortable wins, supported by team mate Graham Slack who was also unbeaten but pushed all the way by Mike Kiff. Cirencester's three points were a win each for Mike Kiff, Rob Willsher and Howard Williams over Russell Hayward who appears to have been a little unlucky in losing his three games, all of which were closely contested.
