Division Two
Smiths Dominate Saracens
Saracens C completed a hard-fought 6-4 win over Cheltenham D. Mike Dodwell was the pick of the players, claiming a maximum for Saracens. Terry Sims chipped in with two wins. Matt Mulcahy was Cheltenham’s best player, winning twice on the night. He kept up his impressive doubles partnership with Alan Harvey as they remained unbeaten for the season, winning for the seventh time in succession, 11-7, 11-7, 9-11, 9-11, 11-7.

Smiths C overcame Saracens E 9-1. Maximums for Graham Chandler and Chris White helped them on their way and Paul Singh won a brace. However, the score line does not suggest the closeness of the match. Sheila Matthews picked up Saracens only point with a good win over Singh, and she was unlucky to lose to Chandler, going down 11-9 in the fifth. Tony Child also had a titanic battle with Chris White, eventually losing out in the fifth set, also by the score line 11-9. Chandler and Singh were comfortable winners in the doubles.

Winchcombe Warriors maintained their lead at the top of the table with an impressive 9-1 win over lowly Tewkesbury B. Dave MacIntosh and Jan De Wet both claimed maximums, whilst Alan Cook picked up Tewkesbury’s only win. However, the score line could have again been closer, Cook losing his other two games in tight five-setters and Ali Lockley throwing away a victory against MacIntosh having seemingly dispatched him. Tewkesbury need to convert these close matches into points as they continue to fight relegation.

Tewkesbury B 1 Winchcombe Warriors 9 J. De Wet, D. Mackintosh
Saracens E 1 Smiths C 9 G. Chandler, C. White
Cheltenham D 4 Saracens C 6 M. Dodwell

Cheltenham J won a close encounter against Chelsea B, and in so doing, recorded their first victory of the season. Andy Sutherland, Zac France and Matt Roberts all chipped in with wins, whilst Chelsea’s consolation was a maximum for Paul Evans.

Tewkesbury C were too strong for Cheltenham H, as Mike Maxwell continued his winning ways with another maximum. John Teare and Roger Tyrell won two sets each, and Carey Maisey also won two for the Cheltenham side.
