The Smiths C side faired no better after losing 10-0 to Cirencester.

Division Two
Gaskell loses Hart
Cheltenham F claimed an excellent 7-3 win against Winchcombe Warriors, thanks to maximums gained by Alan Harvey and Matt Mulcahy. Harvey looked comfortable in winning his three, whilst Mulcahy performed determinedly to win two of his three matches in five-set encounters. Richard Gummow also picked up a morale-boosting victory over the out of sorts Mike Vick. John Teare and Dick Prior claimed one win each for the Warriors, whilst Teare combined well with a rejuvenated Vick to claim a convincing doubles win.

Saracens B were resounding 8-2 winners against club rivals Saracens C. Mike Dodwell and Terry Sims both claimed maximums, although Dodwell was pushed all the way to 12-10 in the fifth by Martin Cosnette. Cosnette picked up the C team’s only singles win with a four-set victory over brace-claiming Ross Greening. Greening won his other two matches for the B team in very tight five-set contests, overcoming Dave Cosnette 11-9 in the fifth having been 2-0 down and Tony Walsh 14-12 in the fifth having been 2-1 down. Martin Cosnette went on to team up with his brother Dave to win the doubles, thus doubling their haul of points for the evening.

Cheltenham D raced to a 9-1 win over CCS A, although it wasn’t as comfortable as the score line suggests. Mike Fry and Dave Green both claimed maximums, but whilst Fry did so with relative ease, failing to lose a single game all evening, Green was pushed all the way to 11-8 in the fifth by David Hart. Hart’s moment of glory was to come later, however, when he condemned top of the averages John Gaskell to only his second defeat of the season. Gaskell did pick up two other comfortable victories and combined with Green to win the doubles.

Winchcombe Wizards were victorious by a score line of 7-3 over Smiths D, although Smiths will be pleased with the result. Nick Davidson and Chris Lane were in commanding form for the Wizards, claiming maximums. Keith Ferguson was less fortunate, losing all three of his games in five sets. Chris Ball, Mike Gleeson and Julie Taylor will all be very pleased with chalking up a victory over Ferguson. Davidson and Lane took the doubles in four games.
