Division One
Chelsea Blues
Cirencester 'B' played Cirencester 'A' in a match that saw a narrow victory for the 'B' side who put out two of their big guns; Graham Slack and Darren Griffin, both of whom were unbeaten and won their only six points. The 'A' side represented by Dave Adamson, Howard Williams and Gordon Shaw had a win each over Jack Collings. Howard and Gordon then enjoyed a good doubles win over Darren and Jack for their final point of the evening.

The points were shared in the match between Lakeside 'A' and Cirencester 'B'. The Lakesider's  Pete Wood and Roy Fowler enjoyed two wins each, supported by Rich Moores who contributed with one. Cirencester's points were won by Darren Griffin who enjoyed a fairly comfortable maximum and Barry Turner for his first point of the season with a win over Rich Moores. Darren and Barry then combined in the doubles to secure the draw.

Cirencester 'B' played Winchcombe Cavaliers in a match where Cirencester were unable to field a full team (despite Barry's heroic efforts) and paid the price with a heavy defeat. Cirencester represented by Barry Turner and Alan Duke both enjoyed a win each over the Cavaliers Stuart Greene, but they were unable to overcome the very capable Tristan Gretton and Choi Sze To.

Winchcombe Roamers played Lakeside 'A'  which ended in a narrow victory for the Roamers. From the scorecard, the player of the match award goes to Suzy  Robinson of the Lakesider's who enjoyed two wins, including an excellent victory over Matt Hartwell. Suzy was supported by Roy Fowler and Rich Moores who contributed a win each for the Lakesider's four points. The Roamers Nick Mytton enjoyed a fairly comfortable maximum, supported by Matt Hartwell whose only loss was to Suzy. The score card suggest that Doug Payne had an absolute marathon against all of his opponents, but lost out to each of them in the fifth and deciding game.

Cheltenham 'A' played Lakeside 'A' where Dave Harvey had to draw on other players to field a full Cheltenham side. (Secretarys note: It is good to see sides making every effort to field a full side and for the individuals stepping up to play when asked - well done!). CTTC 'A' were represented by Dave and Mike Harvey who each won a maximum over the Lakesider's Rich Moore's, Pete Wood and Suzy Robinson. Simon Pratten stepping up for CTTC 'A' to field a full team contributed with one win over Suzy Robinson.

Cheltenham 'A' played Chelsea Building Society with Chelsea represented by David Metcalfe, Dominic Wynn-Sands and Simon Moysey and CTTC 'A' by Dave Harvey, Mike Harvey and Nick Smale. Despite the Chelsea being whitewashed, this does not tell the whole story and Dave Metcalfe in particular was very unlucky in losing all of this games. In his first game against Dave Harvey, he knocked Harvey all around the ball park for two games and looked set for a comfortable straight games win, however Harvey rallied well winning the next two games and narrowly squeaked a victory winning deuce in the fifth. Dave Metcalfe then followed this up with another awesome performance over Mike Harvey, once again Metcalfe was looping and hitting like a demon and Mike looked down and out but somehow Mike was also able to come back from two games down to win a narrow fifth.

Division Two
Wizards Zap Warriors
Matches appear to have been widely affected by the recent frozen conditions, but those that have been played have been good contests.

Winchcombe Wizards extended their lead at the top of the table with an 8-2 victory over club rivals Winchcombe Warriors. However, they didn’t have it all their own way in an exciting match. Jacqui Carver and Chris Lane completed hard fought maximums for the Wizards while Graham Fisher and Mike Vick both defeated Stewart Ratcliffe for the Warriors, Vick doing so in straight sets. However, six out of the ten contests went to a deciding fifth set, and Warriors’ debutant, Charlie Loh, will consider himself most unfortunate, losing all three of his games in the fifth set, 11-9 to Carver, 12-10 to Lane and 11-8 to Ratcliffe. Vick also lost twice in the fifth set, having been 2-1 up against both Carver and Lane. Lane and Ratcliffe won the doubles comfortably in straight sets for the Wizards, who are now stretching away at the top of the table.

Cleeve Saracens B picked up a good 6-4 away win against Tewkesbury B on a freezing cold evening. However, it was Tewkesbury B’s John Goodchild who was in the best form, winning all three of his matches in straight sets. Tony Iles and Jim Tyrrell did the damage for Cleeve Saracens B, winning twice each, and Dave Foulser chipped in with one win. For Tewkesbury B, Michael Maxwell was unfortunate to lose out 12-10 in the deciding set against Iles, whilst teammate Simon Lockley lost out to both Iles and Tyrrell in the fifth set, having been 2-1 up in both games. Iles and Tyrrell combined excellently to take the deciding doubles and a crucial additional point at the bottom of the table in straight sets.

Lakeside D and CCS A played out an entertaining draw. Chris Ball was the best player on the night, claiming a maximum, although he was hard pushed by Dave Hart, winning 4-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9. Mike Gleeson claimed a brace for Lakeside D. Hart won twice and Steve Murton and Jon Nixon won once each for CCS A. In a really entertaining doubles match, CCS A earned a draw as Hart and Nixon overcame Ball and Julie Taylor 11-4, 3-11, 8-11, 11-9, 12-10.

Division Three
Young Guns Shatter Saracens Title Hopes
Old Saracens
squeezed through to record a 6-4 win over Cleeve Eagles in a fixture which produced a number of very long sets. Cleeve’s Tiffany Hopton edged out Pete McGeough 11-8 in five games, but Pete came from two games down to beat Dan Crook by the same score in the fifth. Derek Brown needed five games to overcome Saracen’s Tony Child, and just pipped John Adcock 12-10, 5-11, 15-13,6-11 14-12 in another closely fought encounter.

Cheltenham F found it tough going against Tirley Tigers who won 10-0, but fared slightly better against Old Saracens, where Mike Brook picked up a couple of victories at the expense of Pete McGeough and Tony Child.

With only two players, Cheltenham G put up a good fight against Cleeve Eagles, despite going down 3-7. Simon James for the Cheltenham side won all of his sets, whilst Ryan Godwin took all of the Eagles’ players to five games and was unfortunate not to come away with anything.

Any lingering hopes that Old Saracens may have had of winning the division were shattered by third placed Cheltenham E who, led by James Bird’s maximum,  won 8-2. James’s main opposition came from Pete McGeough who took all of his three sets to five games, but was only able to win one.

Cheltenham E improved their position further following a 10-0 win over Cheltenham H.
