Report For 19/3/08
Division One
Cheltenham A Lift Title
Cheltenham
'A'
comprising largely of the Harvey family reigned supreme this season to take the
Division 1 title, closely followed up by last years winners
Newlands 'A'. The
Winchcombe Cavaliers
braved the storm and just managed to escape relegation, but at the expense of
their club mates Winchcombe Wizards
who were unable to show their magic and the
Winchcombe Warriors, who
failed to show their fighting spirit.
Cirencester played Winchcombe Cavaliers in a match that saw numerous closely contested games all of which except one went in favour of Cirencester. Both Howard Williams and David Adamson each won a maximum for Cirencester supported by Rob Willsher who chipped in with two losing only to Darrell Wiltshire. Saracens 'A' played Winchcombe Cavaliers where Suzy Robinson of Saracens was the star of the evening being the only player to be undefeated for her first maximum of the season including a good win over Luke Moffatt. Suzy was supported by team mates Roy Fowler who chipped in with two wins and Rich Moore's who chipped in with one. This match also saw the first win of the season for the Cavliers Stuart Green with a win over Richard Moores. Cavaliers Luke Moffatt won two, losing only to Roy Fowler in a tight five game match and then combined with Stuart Greene to win the doubles.
Newlands Park 'A' entertained the Winchcombe Wizards in a strongly contested match that saw Newlands emerge the winners by the narrow margin of 6-4. Matt Hartwell of Newlands was the star of the evening being the only player to achieve a maximum that included a win over Choi Sze To (I would like to have been a fly on the wall in that match :-) ). Matt was supported by his team mates Dave White who enjoyed two wins and Doug Payne who chipped in with one. Choi Sze To of the Wizards won two, losing only to Matt and was supported by Keith Ferguson who won one. Choi Sze To and Keith then combined for a good doubles win over the Newlands pairing of Matt Hartwell and Dave White.
Cheltenham 'A' played Cheltenham 'B' in a game that resulted in an emphatic victory for the 'A' side and almost certainly decided the title. Both Dave Harvey and Alex Kearney of CTTC 'A' enjoyed maximum wins despite strong resistance from Graham Slack who reigned victorious over Mike Harvey for CTTC 'B''s only point of the evening. Both Russell Hayward and Barry Turner were unable to contain the attacking power of CTTC 'A' on this occasion losing all of their games.
Winchcombe Warriors played Cirencester in a one sided match that saw a whitewash for the Warriors who lost 10-0. Cirencester comprising of Mike Kiff, Howard Williams and Rob Willsher all enjoyed fairly straightforward victories over the Warriors that comprised Mike Vick, Jan De Wet and Richard Bishop. The only surprise of this match was Mike Kiff who despite finding it difficult in the higher echelons of the game managed to find some form and win a maximum. However, it is not clear whether Mike employed the Yellow shirt, yellow ball advantage?
Chelsea Building Society played Cheltenham 'A' in a closely contested match that ended with both teams sharing the points. Bill Dawe of Chelsea dazzled the opposition with his fast aggressive play. Bill was supported by Guy Greening who contributed with two wins to secure the draw, losing only to Alex Kearney. David Metcalfe of Chelsea was clearly outclassed by CTTC 'A' comprising of Rob Harvey, Mike Harvey and Alex Kearney.
Cheltenham 'B' played Newlands 'A' this week in a match that saw Newlands emerge the winners by 7-3. Clearly Nick Mytton for Newlands was in good form with a maximum that included a good win over Milan Dragojlovic. This was a good performance from Nick who is certainly not getting any younger. Nick was supported by Matt Hartwell who won two and Doug Payne who won one. Russell Hayward of Cheltenham 'B' enjoyed a tight game with Doug Payne emerging the winner in a closely contested deciding set. Milan of CTTC 'B' enjoyed two wins, losing only to Nick Mytton, but also had a close encounter with Matt Hartwell before winning in another closely fought fifth set.
Winchcombe Wizards played Saracen's 'A' this week. Pete Wood of Saracens enjoyed a fairly comfortable maximum, Suzy Robinson also won a maximum but only played two games due to Jacqui Carver of the Wizards having to abstain from her final game due to injury. The Wziards two points were won by Stewart Ratcliffe and Chris Lane who both had a win each over Richard Moores.
Winchcombe Cavaliers and Winchcombe Warriors clashed this week in a local derby that saw the Cavaliers emerge victors by the narrowest of margins. Graeme Browne of the Cavaliers won a comfortable maximum supported by his team mates Stuart Greene and Darrell Wiltshire who chipped in with a win each. Graeme and Darrell then combined to win the doubles and secure the win for the Cavaliers. The Warriors points were won by Richard Bishop with a win over both Stuart Green and Darrell Wiltshire, Jan De Wet with a win over Stuart and Mike Vick with a win over Darrell.
Winchcombe Cavaliers played Newlands 'A' in a re-arranged game where Newlands inflicted a whitewash upon the brave Cavaliers. The Newlands team represented by Nick Mytton, Doug Payne and Matt Hartwell had fairly straight forward wins over the Cavaliers Luke Moffatt, Graeme Brown and Darrell Wiltshire, although Luke pushed Nick Mytton close before losing narrowly in the fifth.
Chelsea Building Society played Winchcombe Cavaliers in another re-arranged game that saw a second heavy defeat in a week inflicted upon the Cavaliers. Guy Greening, Dominic Wynn-Sands enjoyed comfortable maximums supported by Dave Metcalfe who chipped in with two wins that included a good win over the Cavaliers Graeme Browne. The Cavaliers only points were won by Stuart Green with a win over Dave Metcalfe and also the doubles where Stuart combined with Jan De Wet for a good win over Guy Greening and Dominic Wynn-Sands.
