Can Cheltenham Stay Top For Title?
With the top of the table Smiths against third placed
Rudford match cancelled due to an unfortunate lighting failure on match
night, Cheltenham C knew that they had to beat Winchcombe
Cavaliers by a good score to put pressure on the other title contenders.
And they did just that by an emphatic 10-0 victory, with maximums from Harry
and Lawrence Shahlaei and John Atkinson, to move 5 points clear at
the top. This means Smiths now must beat Rudford 6-4
to lift the title and leaves Cheltenham with an agonising wait
till the match is played.
Three wins each from Roy Fowler and Pete Wood gave Saracens A a 9-1 win over bottom club Smiths B. Andy East gained Smiths only point with a win over Bob Trimble.
Cheltenham B extended their run of good results, and ended their season on a high note with an impressive 10-0 win over Smiths C. Judy and Roy Morley, together with Milan Dragojlovic all registered maximums.

Wizards Magic Win Secures Title
Cheltenham E
completed a sensational 9-1 victory over Winchcombe Warriors,
thanks to the fine form of Choi Tzy and Christine Williams.
The two ladies dominated all of their matches, each claiming maximums.
Williams’ superb run of form continued and amongst her victims was the
highly ranked Richard Bishop, who she defeated in four sets.
Youngster Siben Li also chipped in with a brace for Cheltenham
as they plundered the points.
Tewkesbury A completed the season with two fine results. They gained a pleasing 7-3 win over Cheltenham F without their top player Rob Amphlett. Braces for John Goodchild, Simon Lockley and Mike Tyrrell secured the win. Lockley and Goodchild condemned Richard Gummow and Alan Harvey to defeat, whilst Tyrrell overcame Gummow and Matt Mulcahy. Mulcahy won twice for Cheltenham, but was unable to prevent a doubles defeat when combining with Harvey, losing out 11-7, 11-8, 6-11, 11-7 to Goodchild and Lockley.
Tewkesbury A also secured a good draw against Saracens D in an entertaining encounter. Amphlett claimed a maximum, but he was pushed particularly hard by Mark Nally, coming back from 2-1 behind to win in five sets. Lockley and Tyrrell each contributed one win, but there were some very close matches. Indeed, Tony Iles’ two wins came via five set victories over the pair, whilst Nally laboured to a five set victory over Lockley. Iles and Nally were convincing winners in the doubles in a match that settled the draw.
Winchcombe Wizards were in emphatic form on their way to a 10-0 drubbing of Saracens B. Nick Davidson, Chris Lane and Stewart Ratcliffe all claimed maximums, and only three sets were dropped all night long against the team currently lying third in Division Two. Lane and Ratcliffe were convincing winners over Terry Sims and Dennis Wadley in the doubles.
CCS A rounded off their season with an entertaining 7-3 win over Tirley Tigers. Maximums for Steve Murton and Dave Hart earned the victory. Pete Humble was unlucky not to defeat Hart having been 2-0 up. He, and Elaine Evans and Janie Kirby, each won once for Tirley. Kirby had a particularly close encounter with Jon Nixon, winning 19-17, 11-9, 11-9.
Saracens C, playing with only a two man team, finished the season as they started, with a 10-0 loss, this time to Cheltenham D. Cheltenham were in fine form and fought for every point knowing that a good result could give them a chance of possibly winning the division title as they meet current leaders, Winchcombe Wizards in the penultimate game of the season next week. However, the Wizards big win against Saracens this week means that they are already division champions before their final encounter.

Saracens Lift Title
Champions Saracens E
finished the season in style with a 10-0 win over, Cheltenham K,
for whom Emma Hiscoke did well to take a game off John Adcock.
Winchcombe Eagles beat Cheltenham H by the same score.
Cheltenham L picked up some useful end of season points against Tewkesbury C who could only field two players. In an 8-2 success for the Cheltenham side, Andy Sutherland won both of his sets, but Tewkesbury’s Gill Smith played well to overcome Tom Morrison.
Geoff Foster, Alan Thomas and Geoff Wilson each won twice for Civil Service B in a 7-3 win over Cheltenham K, but Michael Brook overcame Geoff Foster in five games.
