Cheltenham A Top Table
Cheltenham A played Smiths A this week and put a severe dent in their
progress towards their title, defeating Smiths by 7-3. This has opened up
the title race where any one of three sides could possibly take the title. The
match certainly looks to have been closer than the score line suggests with
several games won by a narrow margin. The star of this match undoubtedly has to
be Dan Kolesnik who took a hatrick of wins including a fine victory over Nick
Mytton after initially going 2-0 down and then winning comfortably in the 5th.
Dan also took the 100% record of Matt Hartwell winning in four games. Nick
Mytton enjoyed a close five set match with Jon Atkinson before narrowly winning
12-10 in the fifth, Nick then went on to beat the up and coming youngster Milan
Dragojlovic in four games.

Mulcahy Leads The Way
Cheltenham D
impressed with a 7-3 victory over Smiths D. A maximum for Matt Mulcahy
led the way for Cheltenham, although he was pushed hard all the way by
Chris Ball, eventually winning 12-10 in the fifth in a titanic battle. Alan
Harvey won twice for Cheltenham and Andy Dyke chipped in with one win.
Mulcahy and Harvey won the doubles convincingly in straight sets.
Cheltenham D secured a draw with Tewkesbury A. Braces from Alan Harvey and Matt Mulcahy helped them to four points and they combined excellently to win the doubles to ensure that the match was drawn. Tewkesbury’s Rob Amphlett was the star of the evening, winning all three of his games with relative ease. Mulcahy performed particularly well in his match with John Goodchild, coming back from 2 sets down to win.
The match between Saracens C and Saracens E concluded in a whitewash for the C team. Mike Dodwell, Terry Sims and Dennis Wadley all claimed maximums, but the result was not as absolute as the score line suggests. Pete McGeough took Sims to five games in a tight encounter and Tony Child literally threw himself about making life very difficult for the Saracens C players. With luck, the score line could have been slightly different, but as the result suggests, Saracens E’s luck was out.

Tigers Still In
The Chase
Chelsea B put up a good fight
but despite some tremendous rallies, they could not prevent Tirley Tigers
from emerging with a 10-0 win. For Chelsea, John Hoole took Janie Kirby
to five games, losing 11-5 in the final game.
Winchcombe Eagles also recorded a 10-0 win by beating Cheltenham J. For the Cheltenham side, Matt Roberts lost 11-7 in the fifth game to Tiffany Hopton, whilst Andy Sutherland took a game off Mick Holder.
Tewkesbury C were too strong for Cheltenham G, with Mike Maxwell and John Teare each winning all three of their sets in a 9-1 win, supported by Gill Smith who won two.
Cheltenham F overcame Cheltenham H by the same scoreline, but had to work very hard to achieve it, all but two of the sets running to four or five games. Karl Foster and Matt Williams won all three of their sets for the F side, supported by Dominic James with two. The H team’s Carey Maisey lost two sets by narrow margins, and Carol Sadie did well to take a game off both Karl and Dominic. Mike Brook secured their single point.
