Division One
Wild Fowler Ruffles Feathers at Lakeside
Cheltenham B played
Cirencester
B in
a match that saw Cheltenham emerge victors by seven games to three which was a
good team effort with all players contributing to the points. Milan (the Dragon)
Dragojlovic enjoyed another maximum but not before being pushed all the way to
the wire by that old Stalwart Graham Slack, eventually winning deuce in the
fifth. Cheltenham players Russel Hayward won two, and Dominic James won one,
with Milan and Dominic combining to take the doubles. Cirencester's points were
won by Graham Slack with two wins and new kid on the block, Barry Duke (Alan
Duke's brother apparently) who had one win over Dominic James.
Lakeside A played Chelsea Building Society in another one sided match that saw another whitewash for the Chelsea who were a player short due to injury. The Lakeside players, Roy Fowler and Pete Wood, won their games easily enough against Dave Metcalfe and Simon Moysey, but it was a different story for Rich Moores. Lakeside's Rich Moores had two very close games before winning both of them deuce in the fifth. Rich and Pete then combined against Dave and Simon in the doubles to secure the ten games to Nil victory.
Cirencester A played Cheltenham A in a match that saw a whitewash for Cirencester. The Cheltenham team comprising of the Harvey family (Dave, Mike and Robert) all enjoyed comfortable wins over Cirencester's Rob Willshire, Mike Kiff and Howard Williams.

Lakeside B were forced to work extremely hard
to gain a 5-5 draw with Tewkesbury A. In a
highly entertaining contest, Rob Amphlett proved his worth to Tewkesbury A,
winning all three of his encounters in straight sets. Alan Cook and Ali Lockley
added one win each to the total, both condemning Mike Gleeson, playing up from
the D team, to defeat in five sets. Andy East and Ken Smith won twice for
Lakeside B. They then combined to defeat Cook and Lockley in straight sets in
the doubles to force a draw.
Lakeside D raced to a crushing 10-0 whitewash of Cheltenham D. Maximums were claimed by Chris Ball, Trevor Oliver and Julie Taylor, and only four matches in the whole evening went to a fourth set, the remainder being decided in straight sets. Linda Probert performed admirably in her comeback for Cheltenham D, taking Taylor to 18-16 in one of their games. Ball was merciless in his three straight sets triumphs, allowing Richard Gummow a solitary point in one of his games, and preventing Alan Harvey from scoring any at all in another. This fine victory for Lakeside D helps maintain their strong start to the season.
CCS A picked up an impressive 8-2 win against Tewkesbury B. Dave Hart and Jon Nixon claimed maximums, although Nixon was forced to come back from 2 games to 1 down in a tight five-setter with Simon Lockley, eventually prevailing 12-10, 7-11, 9-11, 12-10, 11-9. Lockley and Dave Watson picked up Tewkesbury B’s only points, both defeating Steve Murton, who won once against John Goodchild. Hart and Nixon completed their joyous evening with a five-set triumph over Goodchild and Lockley in the doubles. Tewkesbury B must be disappointed with their results so far.
Winchcombe Wizards claimed a 7-3 win over Winchcombe Warriors in the first Winchcombe derby of the season. No player was able to claim a maximum on the night, but Jacqui Carver, Nick Davidson and Stewart Ratcliffe all won twice for the Wizards. Perhaps the performance of the night, however, came from Mike Vick, who won twice, and was unlucky to lose to Davidson, having been 2-0 up. Graham Fisher picked up a very impressive straight sets win over Davidson. Davidson and Ratcliffe won the doubles in four sets.
Cleeve Saracens A ran out 7-3 winners in their match with Cleeve Saracens B. Mike Dodwell and Den Wadley were in fine form and both claimed maximums for the A team, whilst Ross Greening (A), Tony Iles (B) and Neil Penny (B) all won once. Dave Foulser (B) missed out on a win in a particularly close encounter with Greening. Iles and Penny combined well to take a close doubles encounter.

Tigers Roar Against
Cheltenham
Old Saracens gained a narrow 6-4 win over
Cleeve Eagles, with each of the six players
winning at least one set. The closest match saw Pete McGeough edge out Mick
Holder 12-14,11-9,9-11,11-8,12-10. However, the key contest was that between
Sheila Matthews and Tiffany Hopton, in which Sheila managed to stifle Tiffany’s
natural attacking style, winning in four games.
Tirley Tigers were comfortable 10-0 winners over Cheltenham H, for whom Martin Dolman was the only player to win a game against strong opposition.
Simon James starred for Cheltenham G in their 6-4 win over Civil Service B, gaining a maximum, including a four game win over Jeremy Turberville.
