Division One
Harvey's Hang on
Champions Smiths A returned to the top of the table this week, but not before Cirencester put up a brave fight to narrowly lose 6-4 on the doubles. Nick Mytton was on top form on his way to a maximum, coming back from 2-1 down to win 12-10 in the fifth against Gordon Shaw. Rob Willsher was Cirencester's best player in winning two of their sets.

Harry Shahlaei took all his singles in straight games for Cheltenham C, but Saracens A fought back with two each from Natasha Hurd and Pete Wood. At one stage Saracens led 5-2 but just couldn't force the win as Cheltenham levelled to 5-5 on the doubles.

Cheltenham A dented Rudford's title hopes with a resounding 8-2 win. It was a family affair as Dave and Michael Harvey scored maximums, and youngest member Robert chipped in with a win over Dave Hope.

The Cheltenham B team of Milan Dragojlovic and Judy and Roy Morley had their best win so far as they romped home 10-0 against a two man Smiths B.

Three wins each for Bill Dawe and Guy Greening helped Chelsea Building Society to a 9-1 win over Winchcombe Cavaliers. Darrell Wiltshire took the Cavaliers sole set with a win over Simon Moysey.

Division Two
Cheltenham D Tackle Sara's

Tewkesbury A
recorded a narrow 6-4 victory over Saracens B. Rob Amphlett gained a maximum, and was well supported by John Goodchild and Simon Lockley who won one each. Dennis Wadley grabbed a brace for Saracens. Amphlett and Lockley combined to take a close doubles that decided the encounter Tewkesbury’s way.

Cheltenham D were 7-3 winners against high-flying Saracens D. John Gaskell claimed a maximum for Cheltenham, although he was pushed to 13-11 in the fifth in a close encounter with Mark Nally. Dave Green claimed a good brace for Cheltenham, losing out to Tony Iles, whilst Neil Penny and Nally both overcame Anand Kershav for Saracens. Gaskell and Green took the doubles having fallen behind early on.

Smiths D claimed a hard-fought 6-4 win over Winchcombe Warriors, despite the efforts of Warriors’ Richard Bishop who remained unbeaten on the night. Braces of wins for Chris Ball and Dave Mackman helped Smiths on their way. Mike Gleeson chipped in with one win and then combined with Ball to take the doubles. Ball was unlucky to go down 11-9 in the fifth to the impressive Bishop.

Winchcombe Wizards recorded yet another whitewash as they stormed to a comprehensive victory over Tirley Tigers. Keith Ferguson, Chris Lane and Stewart Ratcliffe all claimed easy maximums, with only one game in the whole evening going beyond three sets, that being Tony Saxton’s encounter against Lane.

CCS A claimed an important 6-4 win over Cheltenham E. David Hart was the pick of the players, claiming an excellent maximum, although he was pushed all the way by Christine Williams, winning 14-12 in the fifth. Steve Murton won two for CCS A, but Williams led the fight back for Cheltenham, winning her other two matches comfortably, and she was well supported by juniors Jamie Makepeace and Luke Doyle who won one each. Hart and Murton combined to take the deciding doubles in five sets having been 2-0 down.

Saracens C earned a pleasing draw against Cheltenham F, thanks to braces of wins for Dave Cosnette and Tony Walsh. Alan Harvey and Matt Mulcahy responded with two wins apiece for Cheltenham. Harvey was unfortunate not to win all three in a titanic battle with Dave Cosnette, losing out 12-14, 13-15, 11-3, 11-9, 9-11. Martin Cosnette claimed a further win for Saracens, but a good doubles performance by Harvey and Mulcahy salvaged a draw for Cheltenham.

Division Three
Cheltenham K Record First Win
Alan Thomas led Civil Service B to an 8-2 victory over Cheltenham L, winning all of his three matches. However, he took five games to overcome Ben Meikle, who recorded a good victory over Geoff Foster.

Saracens E maintained their pressure at the top with a 10-0 win over Cheltenham J. Whilst Tony Child, Pete McGeough and Roy North all achieved maximums, they encountered stiff resistance from James Bird who was unlucky not to achieve success in a couple of sets.

Cheltenham K were too strong for Cheltenham M, with Emma Hiscoke picking up her first wins of the season in a 10-0 victory.

Winchcombe Eagles beat Cheltenham L 9-1 but were pushed hard by Tom Morrison who was involved in three five game sets. He narrowly lost out to Roly Holder, pipped Derek Brown, and teamed up with Ben Meikle to push the Holder brothers close in the doubles.

There was nothing to choose between Cheltenham G and Tewkesbury C as they fought out a 5-5- draw.

Tewkesbury C gained their first win of the season against Cheltenham J. Roger Tyrell was the difference, winning all three of his sets in a 6-4 victory.

Tewkesbury B maintained their run of success at the expense of Cheltenham K who went down 9-1. Carey Maisey prevented the whitewash by beating Alison Lockley in five games.

It was a case of what might have been for Cheltenham H as they went down 7-3 to Civil Service B. Ryan Makepiece won all three of his singles for the Cheltenham side, who then saw four other sets go to five games, all won by Civil Service.
