There's Hope For Rudford
Saracens A
could only turn up with two men and Smiths C seized their
opportunity to win 6-4. Craig Hayward and Jon Marlow (his first
win of the season) both pulverised an out of sorts Pete Wood in fine
style, and then carried on to clinch the win on the doubles. Tony Stead
was by far the best player on the night, easily winning all his singles in
straight games for Saracens.
Dave Harvey took a maximum for Cheltenham A but their B side fought back through Sam White and Milan Dragojlovic, who both beat Michael and Robert Harvey to force the draw.
Chelsea Building Society, without Bill Dawe, are struggling and slumped to their fifth defeat in a row, losing 7-3 to Rudford. Dave Hope scored a maximum for Rudford and Guy Greening won two for Chelsea.
Smiths B gained two creditable points through Andy Richards and Ken Smith but had no answer to Harry and Lawrence Shahlaei who both powered to maximums for Cheltenham C in their 5-2 win.
Cirencester are beginning to run into form and with games in hand are poised to move up the table. Their latest 9-1 win against Winchcombe Cavaliers was their fourth win in a row and included maximums for Dave Adamson and Dave Kolesmik.

Tigers Suffer Double Mauling
Tirley Tigers
suffered two recent defeats. Cheltenham E were in commanding
form as they whitewashed their opponents. Andy Dyke, Siben Li
and Christine Williams all claimed maximums with relative ease.
Elaine Evans and Lesley Dewick pushed Dyke and Williams
all the way in a tight five-set doubles encounter, but were unable to
prevent the whitewash.
Tirley also lost at home to Winchcombe Warriors, but not without putting up a tremendous fight. Richard Bishop and Dick Prior were unbeaten for the Warriors, although Janie Kirby was unlucky not to overcome Prior. Evans and Kirby won once each for Tirley, with Kirby claiming her first singles win of the season and combined well in the doubles, only to lose their second five-set match in a week, having been 2-0 up.
Saracens B were convincing winners against Cheltenham F. Mike Dodwell was in supreme form winning all three, although he had to come from behind to overcome Alan Harvey. Dodwell was well supported by Dennis Wadley and Terry Sims who claimed two wins each. Harvey and Matt Mulcahy picked up Cheltenham’s only points with one win each.
Mark Nally led the way as Saracens D overcame Cheltenham E 8-2. His maximum, along with braces for Tony Iles and Neil Penny, were enough to see off their opponents. Christine Williams picked up a good straight sets victory over Penny, whilst Siben Li did likewise against Iles. Nally and Iles were far too strong in the doubles and they won with ease.
Cheltenham D ran out 7-3 winners over Tewkesbury A. John Gaskell was in fantastic form, winning all three of his games with ease in straight sets, including a tremendous win over Rob Amphlett who had beaten him earlier in the season. Mike Fry and Dave Green won twice each for Cheltenham, but both lost to Amphlett. Fry’s match with Amphlett was particularly close. Tewkesbury A’s third point came as they completed the double over their Cheltenham opponents in the doubles. Amphlett and Mike Tyrrell combined brilliantly to condemn Gaskell and Green to their first doubles defeat of the season in four sets.
Winchcombe Wizards completed a routine 9-1 victory over CCS A and welcomed back Jacqui Carver from injury. Nick Davidson and Stewart Ratcliffe both claimed maximums, although Dave Hart in particular pushed Davidson. Carver managed to claim a brace on her return from injury, losing only to the impressive Hart. Davidson and Ratcliffe continued their unbeaten doubles run with a straight sets victory over Hart and Jeremy Turberville.
Smiths D were convincing 9-1 winners against luckless Saracens C. Chris Ball, Mike Gleeson and Julie Taylor all claimed maximums. Martin Cosnette was unlucky against Ball, going down 12-10 in the fifth set. Cosnette teamed up with his brother Dave to win an unlikely doubles in five sets to claim Saracens’ solitary point.

Tewkesbury C still Cooking
John Downey made a
rare appearance for Civil Service B and produced a significant
impact against high flying Tewkesbury B by winning all three
of his sets. However, Tewkesbury’s all round strength helped
them to a 6-4 victory.
Alan Cook and Roger Tyrell each won all of their sets for Tewkesbury C to overcome Cheltenham H 9-1. However, Cheltenham’s doubles pairing of Matt Roberts and Zak France pushed Alan Cook and Sam Tennant hard in a five game set.
Bottom side Cheltenham M lost 1-9 to Cheltenham L but the result could have been closer. Both Tom Denslow and Dafydd Humphries were involved in five game sets which they lost. Mike Figliola picked up the solitary win for the M side.
