Harvey too hot for Harry
Once again the
clash between two of the Cheltenham clubs produced a superb and
sporting match full of exciting table tennis in division one. Michael Harvey
was the player who produced the goods for Cheltenham A, with a
magnificent maximum, including a win in five sets over the previously unbeaten
Harry Shahlaei. Harry later made up for the loss by beating
Dave Harvey in five. This was not enough however to stop Cheltenham C
from losing 7-3.
Chelsea B.S. finally gained their first win of the season after a poor start, with a 10-0 victory over joint bottom club Smiths B.
Leaders Smiths A also hammered their team mates Smiths C by the same margin. This leaves both Smiths sides firmly anchored to the bottom of the table with no points from four games.
Cirencester only turned up with two men against Cheltenham B, but still managed to win 6-4, with a maximum for Rob Willsher. Dominic Wynn-Sands had a good win over Cheltenham B's previously unbeaten Dave Adamson.
A Pete Wood treble for two man Saracens A earned them a draw against Winchcombe Cavaliers. Both Luke Moffat and Darrel Wiltshire had wins over Roy Fowler for the Cavaliers.

Division Two
Cheltenham D Show No Mercy to Team Mates
Cheltenham F
cruised to a whitewash over struggling Tirley Tigers in
division two. Matt Mulcahy, debutant Chris James and Alan
Harvey all claimed maximums, with only Tony Saxton pushing Harvey
to a deciding fifth set.
Cheltenham D claimed an emphatic 10-0 win over club rivals Cheltenham E, but it was not without a fight. Mike Fry, John Gaskell and Dave Green all claimed maximums, but both Fry and Gaskell were hard pushed to win their matches. Christine Williams was unlucky for the E side, losing out to Fry 13-11 in the deciding fifth set. Siben Li was even unluckier, going down 11-6 to Fry in the fifth set and 11-9 to Gaskell. Green was the pick of the players and was rarely troubled.
Saracens B worked hard to complete a 6-4 win over Smiths D. Mike Gleeson was in fantastic form for Smiths, winning all of his games comfortably. He teamed up with Dave Mackman to take the doubles. Mike Dodwell, Dennis Wadley and Ross Greening all contributed to Saracens’ 6 points, winning a brace each. Chris Ball was unlucky for Smiths, going down 11-9 and 13-11 in the fifth set to Dodwell and Wadley respectively.
Winchcombe Wizards eased to a comfortable 8-2 victory against Tewkesbury A. Nick Davidson was on top form, winning all three games. Rob Amphlett continued his fine run of form defeating Stewart Ratcliffe and condemning Keith Ferguson to his first defeat of the season. However, he was disappointed with his performance against Davidson. Mike Tyrrell and Simon Lockley offered little resistance for Tewkesbury, and are slowly becoming accustomed to playing regularly at a higher standard.

The Top Two Draw
Two of the top guns in
division three met when Tewkesbury B played Saracens E.
In a closely fought contest, honours were even as the two teams battled to a
5-5 draw.
Cheltenham J are just finding their feet, and progressed to a 9-1 win over Cheltenham K. Andy Smith and James Bird scored maximums, with Michael Brook winning against John Terry to prevent a whitewash.
It was a match of firsts as Cheltenham N gained their first points of the season against Cheltenham K, who won 6-4 and for whom this was their first win. Carey Maisey was in fine form to win all three of his sets.
Winchcombe Eagles continued their winning ways with a comfortable 10-0 victory over Tewkesbury C, although Gill Smith fought well only to lose in five games against Mick Holder. Tiffany Hopton, Mike Holder and Roly Holder seemed comfortable as they each registered maximums.
