Choi Too Good For
Opponents
Winchcombe Royals (Choi Sze
To, Stuart Greene, Darrell Wiltshire) played
Cirencester (Rob Willsher, Howard Williams, Gordon Shaw) in a match
that was largely dominated by Choi Sze To who enjoyed another hatrick of wins,
who then combined with Stuart to win the doubles for the Royal's only other
point of the evening. Cirencester's victory was a team effort with Rob, Howard
and Gordon all winning two singles each over Stuart and Darrell.
Winchcombe Roamers (Nick Mytton, Doug Payne, Matt Hartwell) entertained Cheltenham 'B' (Nick Smale, Dominic James, Anand Keshav) in a relatively one sided match where the Roamers emerged the victors. Cheltenham's Nick Smale proved to be the only thorn in the side for the Roamers by winning two of his singles against Nick and Doug. The Roamers' Matt Hartwell was the only unbeaten player in this match with a hat-trick of wins. He was supported by Nick and Doug who both contributed two wins each over Cheltenham's Dominic and Anand.
Cheltenham 'A' (Mike Harvey, Rob Harvey, Dave Harvey) played Lakeside 'A' (Pete Wood, Suzy Robinson) in a match where the Lakesiders were only able to field two players. Cheltenham's Mike and Dave were unbeaten, although Suzy gave Mike a fright by pushing him all of the way before losing narrowly in the fifth. The Lakesider's Suzy Robinson enjoyed a straight sets victory over Rob to deny him a maximum and then combined with her team mate Pete Wood for an excellent doubles victory over Mike and Dave for their second and final point of the evening.
Winchcombe Royals (Choi Sze To, Keith Ferguson, Nick Davidson) entertained the Chelsea Building Society (Simon Moysey, Guy Greening, Bill Dawe) in a match that was once again dominated by the Royal's Choi Sze To who enjoyed a hat-trick of wins and then combined with team mate Nick for an excellent doubles win over Guy and Bill. Chelsea's Guy Greening and Bill Dawe enjoyed two wins a piece over the Royal's Keith Ferguson and Nick Davidson, supported by Simon Moysey, who had a win over Keith Ferguson and earn a draw. The Royal's Choi Sze To did remarkably well to overcome Bill Dawe in three straight games because it is estimated that Bill must have had at least five nets in each game. Unfortunately for Guy this trend was reversed when he played Choi who enjoyed a similar amount of luck before emerging victorious in four games.
Cheltenham 'A' (Mike Harvey, Rob Harvey, Russell Hayward) entertained Winchcombe Cavaliers (Chris Pearce, Craig Norledge, Duncan Arrandale) in a match where the Cavaliers' Chris Pearce proved to be a pain in the neck for Cheltenham by winning all of his games and then combining with Craig to win the doubles for their only points of the evening. Cheltenham's narrow victory was a team affair with Mike, Rob and Russell all winning two points each against the Cavaliers' Craig and Duncan. One match worthy of highlight and one I would like to have watched was between Mike and Chris that looks to have been a titanic struggle that could have gone either way. However, Chris Pearce kept his bottle and emerged the victor by the narrowest of margins by deuce in the fifth and deciding game.

Tewkesbury Take The Treble
A
successful few days for Tewkesbury B
gave further evidence of their dominance of the division against two
sides who would hope to finish in the top half.
In
their 7-3 win over Cheltenham E, the
highlight was the encounter between John Goodchild and James Bird. John
eventually came out on top, winning 7-11, 11-4, 11-1,10-12, 11-9. All of
the Cheltenham players
managed one win each.
Tewkesbury continued their winning
ways with two wins over Cleeve Eagles
on successive nights. The first, a 9-1 success, was achieved with both
John Goodchild and Wayne Lippett gaining maximums. Wayne was pushed to
an 11-9 fifth game win against Derek Brown, who gained Eagle’s only
point.
Eagles changed their line up for the second encounter, but were swept aside 10-0. The closest they came to any joy was the clash between Wayne and Tiffany Hopton. Wayne seems to have a knack of winning fifth games, and did so here with a 12-10 score line.
With only two players, it was always going to be an uphill struggle for Civil Service B in their match against Winchcombe Vikings. Geoff Wilson gained their only win against John Gallop, whilst Dick Prior and Roy Gavin picked up two each for the Vikings on their way to a 9-1 victory.
Cheltenham H had to settle for a solitary point against a solid looking Cheltenham E outfit. John Terry and James Bird claimed maximums, and it was left to Tom Warner to prevent the whitewash, beating Carey Maisey in five games.
