Division One
Roamers Do The Double Over Chelsea
Cheltenham  'A' played Winchcombe Roamers in a match that resulted in a narrow victory for CTTC 'A' thanks largely to a maximum by Dave 'old man' Harvey who was supported by eldest son Mike and Nick Smale, who both chipped in with a win each over Doug Payne. The Harvey's then combined to win the doubles and sneak a narrow victory. The Roamers Nick Mytton and Matt Hartwell enjoyed some close games and took the only four points of the evening for the Roamers with wins over Mike Harvey and Nick Smale.

Lakeside 'A' played Cirencester 'A' in a match that saw an emphatic victory for Cirencester with Roy Fowler saving the whitewash for Lakeside with a win over Rob Willsher. Cirencester's Dave Adamson and Gordon Shaw (surprisingly) were largely untroubled in winning all their games over the Lakesiders who were represented by Rich Moores, Pete Wood and Roy Fowler.

Cheltenham 'A' played  Lakeside 'A' in a fairly one sided match that saw an easy victory for CTTC 'B'. Both Russell Hayward and Nick Smale won all of their games, supported by Dominic James who chipped in with one. The Lakesiders points were won by Suzy Robinson and Rich Moores who both enjoyed a win over youngster Dominic. Pete Wood was unfortunate in losing all three.

Lakeside 'A'
lost by a narrow victory to Winchcombe Cavaliers. The Lakesiders points were won by Suzy Robinson and Roy (Foxy) Fowler who each enjoyed wins over the Cavaliers Craig Norledge and Darrell Wiltshire, but were unable to overcome Choi Sze To who won enjoyed a hatrick of wins. Pete Wood of the Lakesider's was unfortunate in losing all three of his closely contested games.

Cirencester 'A' played Winchcombe Roamers in a match that surprisingly saw a fairly easy win for the Roamers by eight games to two. Cirencester's points were won by David Adamson and Rob Willsher with wins over Doug Payne who in turn had a nice win over Howard Williams who was unfortunate in losing all of his singles. Roamers Nick Mytton and Matt Hartwell both enjoyed maximum wins although Matt was pushed all the way by Rob Willsher before squeaking a narrow win in the deciding set.

Winchcombe Roamers played Winchcombe Cavaliers where the Cavaliers emerge victors by seven games to three. Surprisingly perhaps, the Roamers Nick Mytton and Matt Hartwell only won one match a piece. Both Choi Sze To and Tristan Gretton of the Cavaliers enjoyed maximum wins and were supported by Craig Norledge who chipped in with one.

Winchcombe Roamers played a depleted Cirencester 'B' side that had to call on the skills of their A teams Gordon Shaw for support. Gordon agreed to play for Cirencester 'B' just so that the opposing team could enjoy playing a full team. Therefore, Gordon's results will not count towards the average or overall score of the match. This match saw a rare appearance of Darren Griffin and Dan Kolesnik, both of whom enjoyed a maximum of wins over Nick Mytton, Matt Hartwell and Dave White and then combined to win the doubles for a seven games to three victory.

Cirencester 'B' played Cheltenham 'A' in a match that once again saw Cirencester put out some big guns in the form of Graham Slack and Dan Kolesnik who both enjoyed two wins each but were unable to overcome the strength of Cheltenham's Dave Harvey who secured a maximum supported by Rob Harvey and Chris Hewitt who contributed a win each.

The Chelsea Building Society played Winchcombe Roamers twice in this short period due to a re-arrangement. In this first encounter, the Chelsea put out their ‘C’ side comprising (Dave Metcalfe, Dominic Wynn-Sands, Simon Moysey) and were soundly whitewashed by the old timers Nick Mytton, Doug Payne and the youngster Matt Hartwell who won all of their games without really being troubled.

In the second encounter the Chelsea Building Society fielded their ‘B’ side comprising (Guy Greening, Dave Metcalfe, Simon Moysey) against the Winchcombe Roamers and thanks to Guy Greening were able to salvage two points with wins over Nick Mytton and Doug Payne, but was unable to overcome Matt Hartwell.

Winchcombe Cavaliers played Lakeside ‘A’ in a match that took place before Christmas, but I have only just received the card. The Cavaliers Tristan Gretton was the star of this encounter being the only player to remain undefeated. Tristan was supported by team mates Stuart Green who contributed two wins, and Craig Norledge with one. Lakeside’s points were won by Rich Moores with wins over Craig and Stuart and Roy Fowler with a win over Craig. Lakeside’s Pete Wood was unfortunate in losing all of his games.

Winchcombe Cavaliers played Cirencester ‘A’ in a really rowdy match where Cirencester attempted every trick in the book to put the Cavaliers off their stride. The Cavaliers Tristan Gretton was unmoved by the antics and achieved yet another fairly comfortable maximum. Tristan was supported by team mate Choi Sze To, who won two, Stuart Green was unfortunate in losing all three despite a very close game with the whinging Mike Kiff. Cirencester’s Dave Adamson won two games that included an excellent win over Choi Sze To, and was supported by Rob Willshire and Mike Kiff who each won one. Cirencester went on to win the double and secure the draw. Apparently the Cavaliers were very restrained at the antics of Mike Kiff who whinged throughout the whole evening and when using a white ball wore a white shirt and when using a yellow ball, wore a yellow shirt yet still only won one game with an outrageous amount of luck. (Secretary’s note: I was present at this match that was really hard fought and played in the very best of spirit).

The Chelsea Building Society played Cheltenham ‘B’ in a hard fought encounter that resulted in a fairly inevitable draw. Chelsea’s Guy Greening and Dave Metcalfe secured two wins each and combined to win the doubles and secure the draw. Simon Moysey was unfortunate in losing all of his games in fairly close encounters. Cheltenham's points were won by Simon Pratten (that included a good win over Guy Greening) and Russell Hayward with two wins each and Dominic James with a good win over Simon Moysey.

Division Two
Cheltenham D Dismount Saracens
Tewkesbury A condemned CCS A to a 7-3 defeat, thanks to a maximum from Rob Amphlett and a brace for Alan Cook. Mike Tyrrell chipped in with one win. Dave Hart won twice for CCS A. The doubles was a very close affair, with the Tewkesbury pairing of Cook and Tyrrell prevailing 11-7, 7-11, 11-8, 6-11, 15-13 over Hart and Nixon.

CCS A bounced back from this defeat, with a 7-3 win over Cleeve Saracens B. The win was unfortunately helped along by an arm injury to Cleeve Saracens B’s Jim Tyrrell in the first set of his opening game with Dave Hart. Hart continued his fine run of form with three easy wins and combined with Steve Murton to win the doubles. Murton claimed a good five-set win over Dave Foulser in the closest game of the evening, and Tony Iles picked up two good wins for Cleeve Saracens B.

Cheltenham C picked up an impressive 9-1 away win at Winchcombe Warriors. Maximums for Anand Keshav and Christine Williams and a brace for Dave Green assured the points. Graham Fisher picked up the Warriors’ solitary point with a straight sets win over Green, and was slightly unfortunate to lose in five sets to Keshav. Ray Griffiths also put in a good performance for the Warriors, and was unlucky not to defeat Green, losing in five sets having been 2-1 up. Green and Keshav won the doubles in five sets having been 2-0 down.

Winchcombe Wizards defeated Tewkesbury A 8-2 thanks to maximums from Nick Davidson and Keith Ferguson. Tewkesbury’s two points came from Rob Amphlett and Alan Cook who both defeated Jacqui Carver. Amphlett had a particularly close game with Ferguson, and was edged out 7-11, 11-7, 7-11, 12-10, 9-11. Davidson and Ferguson claimed an easy straight sets doubles win over Cook and Mike Tyrrell.

Lakeside D were impressive in their 6-4 win over club rivals Lakeside C. Braces from Chris Ball and Trevor Oliver and a fine five-set win for Julie Taylor over Paul Singh set up the victory. However, the best player on the night was Lakeside C’s Chris White, who claimed a maximum, including a five-set win over Oliver, having been 2-0 down. Lakeside D claimed the victory as Ball and Oliver defeated Barrie Pope and White in four sets in the doubles.

Lakeside B earned a 7-3 win over Tewkesbury B. Andy Richards was the best player on the night, claiming a maximum, and he was well supported by Paul Singh, who was playing up, who won twice. Dave Watson won twice for Tewkesbury B, including straight sets wins over Singh and Ken Smith. John Goodchild chipped in with a hard-earned five-set win over Smith, coming through 7-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9. Smith battled hard all night despite having been laid up for the previous few days with flu, and should be credited for his ‘never-say-die’ performance. Richards and Singh raced to a straight sets doubles win.

Cheltenham D claimed an impressive 7-3 win over Cleeve Saracens A. A maximum for Alan Harvey and braces for Chris James and Matt Mulcahy did the damage. Harvey was in superb form, winning two of his matches in five-sets, including coming back from 2-0 down to defeat Mike Dodwell 6-11, 3-11, 16-14, 12-10, 12-10. Harvey said of this win, “My match against Mike was one of the hardest and closest I have ever played. Another such game might be the death of me!” We hope that doesn’t happen, Alan! Dodwell and Ross Greening produced a terrific display in the doubles to defeat Harvey and Mulcahy, winning 7-11, 11-8, 13-11, 5-11, 11-5.

Winchcombe Warriors recovered from their heavy defeat at the hands of Cheltenham C to record a 6-4 away win over Cleeve Saracens B. A super maximum from Graham Fisher was the difference between the two sides, although he only just edged past Tony Iles 12-10 in the fifth set. His maximum also included a win over former school mate Dave Foulser. Iles was in super form for Cleeve Saracens B, winning twice, and he will consider himself unlucky not to have claimed a maximum. Mike Vick picked up a brace for the Warriors, and he was involved in a titanic clash with Iles, losing out 11-9 in the fifth set. Fisher and Vick won the deciding doubles comfortably in straight sets.

Cleeve Saracens A raced to a convincing 10-0 win over CCS A. Due to a mix-up over availability, CCS A were down to two players which is always a little depressing and so it seemed, especially in Steve Murton’s play. Jon Nixon, on the other hand, seemed to revel in adversity and played an excellent game, especially when going to the fifth and final game against Mike Dodwell. The whitewash was completed when the partnership of Dodwell and Ross Greening triumphed in the doubles.

Tewkesbury B recorded their first win of the season, and what an important and impressive win it was, as they condemned Cheltenham D to an 8-2 defeat. A maximum for John Teare and braces for Michael Maxwell and Dave Watson set the tone, and a five-set win in the doubles completed the victory. Linda Probert claimed a brace for Cheltenham D, winning her first matches of the season, as she saw off Watson 11-9 in the fifth set and defeated Maxwell in four sets.

Lakeside B earned a 5-5 draw with club rivals Lakeside D, despite only fielding two players. Andy East and Andy Richards both won twice for the B team and combined to complete an impressive straight sets doubles victory. However, the player of the night had to be Lakeside D’s Mike Gleeson, who won both of his matches, seeing off Richards in straight sets and overcoming East in five sets having been 2-1 down, winninng 10-12, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9, 11-7.

Tewkesbury A bounced back from their heavy defeat at the hands of Winchcombe Wizards with a 6-4 win over Lakeside C. No player on the night could assert complete authority, but braces for Rob Amphlett and Alan Cook set Tewkesbury on their way. Ali Lockley chipped in with a five-set win over Paul Singh. Barrie Pope was Lakeside C’s best player, winning twice, including coming back from 2-0 down to defeat Amphlett in five sets. Unfortunately for him, Cook did exactly the same to him! Cook and Lockley combined well in the doubles to defeat Graham Chandler and Singh in four sets.

Division Three
Eagles Wing A Draw Against Tigers
Cleeve Eagles won the mid-table clash against Civil Service B 6-4, thanks to in-form Dan Crook. He swept aside the opposition, including an impressive victory over Rob Browning in three games.

Civil Service found the going even tougher against title favourites Tirley Tigers who triumphed 9-1. However, Elaine Evans was pushed to five games by both Geoff Wilson and Jeremy Turberville, the latter only losing 9-11 in the final game.

Old Saracens kept up the pressure on Tirley with a useful 8-2 win over an improving Cheltenham G. Both Sheila Matthews and Tony Child put in good performances, winning each of their sets. Simon James and Jon Laramy won one each for the Cheltenham side.

Cleeve Eagles gained valuable points in a 5-5 draw with Tirley Tigers. With all of the Eagles’ players picking up some victories, it was left to Pete Humble to steady the Tirley ship, although he needed all of his experience to pip Tiffany Hopton 10-12, 17-15, 11-6, 6-11, 11-9.
