Trouble For Wizards
Smiths
B entertained Saracens A this week and came away with just the two
points. Peter Wood of Saracens enjoyed an untroubled maximum as did Suzy
Robinson, but not before Andy East pushed her all the way to a fifth and
deciding game. Andy East spoilt the show for Saracens by beating Richard
Moore and then combining with Andy Richards to win the doubles and secure Smiths
their two points.
Possibly the game of the week was the clash between Smiths A and Cheltenham B, which resulted in Smiths first defeat of the season by 4-6. Dave Harvey was once again the star of this match with an untroubled maximum, supported by his Son's Mike who contributed two wins and Robert who won one. Nick Mytton had mixed fortunes in this match losing deuce in the Fifth to Mike after being 10-6 up and then winning narrowly deuce in the fifth against the improving Rob Harvey. Dave and Mike then combined to take the doubles maintaining their 100% record and completing the 6-4 win.
Cheltenham A and Cheltenham C clashed this week with a 10-0 win going in the A sides favour. This looks to have been a straight forward affair for the A team, although Dave Green gave Dan Kolesnik a bit of a fright before losing in a deciding set.
Chelsea Building Society A played the Winchcombe Wizards and came out 7-3 winners. Simon Moysey played very well to win all of his games three straight. Simon was well supported by Dominic Wynn-Sands who also won three and Dave Metcalfe who won one. Both Keith Ferguson and Nick Davidson managed to beat David Metcalfe. The Wizards then went on to win the doubles.

Servicemen Victorious
Cheltenham D
completed an impressive 8-2 victory over Tewkesbury B. Alan Harvey and
Matt Mulcahy claimed maximums, although Harvey was pushed all the way by Alan
Cook. Richard Gummow added to the tally with a good win over Tom Urbanski. Cook
and Wayne Lippett picked up one win each for Tewkesbury B. The doubles
partnership of Mulcahy and Gummow proved just too strong for Cook and Lippett.
Saracens D completed a 6-4 win over Tewkesbury A in a closely contested encounter. Mark Nally and Niall Pawsey won twice each for Saracens, although Pawsey was pushed to five games by both Simon Lockley and Mike Tyrrell. Rob Amphlett was the pick of the players, winning each of his games with a display of powerful dominant attacking drives. Tony Iles and Nally were convincing winners in the doubles.
Smiths D completed a 6-4 win over Saracens E thanks to maximums from Mike Gleeson and Julie Taylor. Tony Child, Sheila Matthews and Roy North all won once for Saracens and Child and Matthews combined well to take the doubles.
CCS A completed a famous victory over title favourites Smiths C by a score line of 6-4. Phil King claimed an impressive maximum, although he was pushed to five sets by both Graham Chandler and Paul Singh. Dave Hart won twice, and was unlucky not to claim a maximum in an epic battle with Chris White, having been 2 sets to 1 up. Steve Murton enjoyed a tight five set win over Chandler, whilst Chris White won twice for Smiths C. Credit where credit’s due – this was an impressive win for CCS A, and Smiths captain Chris White said, “Dave Hart is the most natural player I’ve faced outside of the 1st Division”. Praise indeed!

Jason Harwood scored a maximum for
Chelsea B against Civil Service B, as two sides with similar records
so far this season fought out a 5-5 draw. The result hinged on a close doubles,
where Alan Thomas and Geoff Wilson moved into a two game lead for Civil
Service, but Paul Evans and Jason came back to win 5-11, 9-11,
11-6,17-15,11-5.
Cheltenham F fought hard against high flying Tirley, and were rewarded when Karl Foster beat Lesley Dewick, and Chris Foster claimed a five game victory over Pete Humble. Elaine Evans kept the Tirley train on the rails by securing a maximum.
