Division One
The Dragon Rises!
There was disappointment for Newlands this week as they were scheduled to play the Winchcombe Warriors who did not turn up. The Newlands captain was reluctant to claim the match and hopes that the Warriors will re-arrange. Personally I find this very commendable in view of the distance that the Newlands players travel to play in the Cheltenham league.

Saracens A played Cirencester in an entertaining match that ended in a flattering scoreline for Cirencester that probably did not reflect the match. Dave Adamson of Cirencester was in very sharp form and was untroubled in winning all of his singles comfortably. Dave was well supported by Mike Kiff who got his full money's worth in winning two, and Rob Willsher who contributed one! The Saracen's points were won by Alan Smith who won two games, losing only to the in-form Dave Adamson and Suzy Robinson who beat Willsher.

Winchcombe Wizards entertained Chelsea Building Society who despite being without Bill Dawe who was protecting his average, managed to come away with a narrow victory. Choi Sze To of the Wizards played well to win all of her singles that included an excellent game against Greening before winning narrowly 11-9 in the deciding game. Keith Ferguson overcame David Metcalfe for the Wizards only other point although Jacqui Carver pushed David Metcalfe the full distance before losing narrowly in the deciding game.

The Winchcombe Cavaliers played Cheltenham B in a close fought match that saw numerous matches go the full distance, with the end result being a predictable draw. Clearly Milan Dragojlovic was the star for Cheltenham B and witnessing his play while playing on the adjacent table, I fail to see anyone that will beat him this year. However, it was also very pleasing to witness the improvement in Luke Moffatt of the Cavaliers who  performed to a high standard and certainly did not let MIlan have everything his own way! Milan was the only player to achieve a maximum, supported by his team mates Russell Hayward and Barry Turner who contributed one win each against Stuart Greene who lost all of his three games. Luke Moffatt and Grahame Brown had two wins each for the Cavaliers, losing only to Milan and then combined to win the doubles for the draw.

E's Too Good For Servicemen
Sheila Matthews and Tony Child both achieved maximums as Saracens E returned to winning ways with an 8-2 victory over Cheltenham G. Cheltenham’s only singles success came from Jon Laramy, who got the better of Roy North over four games.

Cheltenham E are proving a real handful, with Civil Service B finding themselves at the wrong end of an 8-2 scoreline. Karl Foster maintained his excellent form with a maximum. John Downey provided Civil Service’s main resistance, winning their two sets.
