Division Two
Its All Even, But Cheltenham C Crowned Champions
Newlands Park B took it right to the wire at the top of the table with an expected 10-0 win over Tirley Tigers. These points were courtesy of victories from Andy East, Andy Richards and Ken Smith. Pete Humble battled hard for Tirley, pushing both East and Smith to deciding fifth games. Newlands Park B amassed the same number of points as Cheltenham C at the top, 163, but finished second due to their inferior win record. It really has been one of the tightest contests for many seasons.

Saracens C rounded off a sensational season with a 6-4 win over Newlands Park C to secure third place. A maximum for Niall Pawsey paved the way. Barrie Pope offered stubborn resistance for Newlands Park C, winning twice, although he had to come back from being two sets down against Neil Penny. Pawsey and Penny secured a doubles victory in the fifth set that assured victory for Saracens C, and ultimately third place in the table, above club rivals Saracens B.

It is with this report that I stand down as Division Two secretary. Thanks for all the support you have given me over the past five years. Thanks especially for excitingly reported news on the back of cards! This season has been so close: the battle for top spot was as close as anyone can remember, and fittingly, only 11 points separated the teams ranked from 3rd to 9th position in the table. That makes Division Two a very competitive place to play!
