Smiths C Just Win Derby
In the local
derby between Smiths C and B teams, both gained
their first points of the season. Craig Hayward and Chris White won
two each and took the doubles to secure a narrow 6-4 win for the C
team. Andy East with two wins was the B teams best player.
Another close thriller gave Cheltenham C a 6-4 win against Cirencester. Harry Shahlaei won all his singles although he was taken to five by both Dave Adamson and Dan Kolesmik. His brother Laurence chipped in with two good wins over Adamson and Rob Willsher.
Despite a Dave Harvey treble, Cheltenham A still lost 6-4 to a strong performance from Saracens A. Brian McRandal and Pete Wood both won two each and then combined well in the doubles to beat Dave and Michael Harvey three straight.
Smiths A produced another big win, this time 9-1, to stay at the top of the division. Matt Hartwell (still with a 100% record) and Nick Mytton both scored maximums. Improving junior Milan Dragojlovic beat Mark Bilsborrow to save the whitewash for Cheltenham B.
Rudford preserved their 100% record with an 8-2 win over Winchcombe Cavaliers. Alan Smith with his controversial Dr Neubauer rubber took a maximum for them. Neil Lowrie beat Dave Hope and Luke Moffat beat Lawrence Symmonds for the Cavaliers two points.

Saracens C Whitewash Understrength Cheltenham E
Saracens D stormed to a 9-1 victory against Tirley Tigers,
although the result is a little flattering and does not reveal the closeness
of some of the games. Tirley are really short on luck at the
moment and that was apparent in this game. Elaine Marshall took all
of her games to five sets, and was in fact 2-1 up in all of them. However,
she lost 11-9, 11-8 and 11-7 in the fifth set to Tony Iles, Mark Nally
and Neil Penny respectively, earning nothing from the night.
Iles and Nally claimed maximums whilst Lesley Dewick secured
Tirley’s solitary point with a fine win over Penny.
Smiths D and Tewkesbury A played out an entertaining 5-5 draw in a game that could have gone either way. Rob Amphlett claimed yet another maximum for Tewkesbury, although he was hard pushed by an in form Mike Gleeson. Gleeson and Julie Taylor claimed braces for Smiths, although Taylor had to fight back from 2-0 down against Simon Lockley. Mike Tyrrell was a convincing winner against Dave Mackman, and he combined with Amphlett to secure a doubles win that earned a draw.
Cheltenham D scraped to a 6-4 win over club colleagues Cheltenham F. John Gaskell was the pick of the players, winning his three games with ease. Matt Mulcahy was the star for Cheltenham F, winning twice, including an impressive straight sets victory over Dave Green. Alan Harvey and Chris James picked up one win each as they both defeated an out of sorts Anand Kershav. Gaskell and Green got the better of Mulcahy and Harvey in a tense doubles to complete the victory.
Saracens C claimed a hard-earned 10-0 victory against two-man Cheltenham E. Dave Cosnette, Martin Cosnette and Tony Walsh secured maximums, but they were all pushed to five sets by the unfortunate Andy Dyke. He was very unlucky to finish the night empty-handed. Siben Li also played well for Cheltenham, but was inconsistent enough to enable Saracens to complete a whitewash.
Winchcombe Wizards thrashed their club colleagues the Warriors 9-1 as they continue to dominate the division. Nick Davidson and Keith Ferguson claimed maximums, although Davidson, the only player in the division remaining unbeaten, was pushed very close by Dick Prior, winning 12-10, 10-12, 13-11,15-13. Chris Lane secured a brace, whilst John Teare picked up the Warriors’ only point.

Three
Saracens E off to a flying start
Two of
the Cheltenham sides fought out a 5-5 draw. For
Cheltenham K, Carey Maisey starred, winning all three sets
including a close win over Chris Foster of Cheltenham G
in five games. Chris teamed up with son Karl to win the
doubles and secure the draw.
Winchcombe Eagles won 8-2 against Cheltenham G, who made them work hard for their success. Tiffany Hopton won all three for the Eagles, but Mick Holder and brother Roly both had to go to five games to overcome Karl Foster and Sean Whitelow respectively. The doubles also went to five games, Eagles winning the final game 11-9.
Saracens E who are currently topping the table by just one point, were too strong for Cheltenham L, with Tony Child, Sheila Matthews and Pete McGeough all winning without dropping a game. For Cheltenham, Ben Meikle nearly snatched a couple of games but was having difficulty in taming his new bat!
Tewkesbury B maintained their unbeaten record with an 8-2 win over stubborn Cheltenham H, for whom Ryan Makepiece played well, overcoming Wayne Lippett and Pete Newdeck. Tom Urbanski was the lynchpin for Tewkesbury, winning all three.
Cheltenham H found the going easier against Cheltenham M, winning 10-0, although Matt Roberts had to go to five games to get the better of Mike Figliola.
Cheltenham J maintained their encouraging start by drawing 5-5 with Civil Service B. Cheltenham won the doubles, and Geoff Foster was on form for the service men to secure a maximum.
