County Cadet Championships 2009/10

Gavin Collings (Team manager), Graham and Lesley Slack (Team coaches) and Janie Kirby (County Umpire) travelled to Evesham to support Gloucestershire’s cadet team in the first round of the County Championships. This was the first outing for this very young and inexperienced team, which consisted of Jack Collings (Cheltenham), Simon James (Cheltenham), Joe Ansley (Cheltenham), Corrie Hart (Cirencester) and Hannah Leggott (Cheltenham).

Gloucestershire competed in Division 1B in the County Championships and their first match was against Gwent, whose team consisted of
Alexander O’Connell, Ashley Perry, Alexander Williams, Charlotte Carey and Elizabeth Roberts. Several of the Gwent team are very experience players for their age and travel to the ETTA Grand Prix events that are staged around the Country.

The final result was Gwent 9, Gloucestershire 1.

Jack Collings was the only player to steal a point for the county side and was unlucky not to win a second game in their match against tough opposition. Simon James also came very close to winning two of his games.

In their second encounter of the day, yet another strong Welsh side crossed their paths, this time it was Glamorgan 2 whose team comprised of some very experienced players in the guise of Alex Francis, Conner Edwards, Ashley Stavrakis, Naomi James and Caris Webster.

Jack Collings was the only player to gain a point for Gloucestershire and was unlucky not to gain a second deserved win, whilst Simon James also gave his heart and soul but could not manage to gain that elusive win.

The final result was Glamorgan 2nds 9, Gloucestershire 1

Jack, Simon, Joe, Corrie and Hannah played with passion and determination throughout these extremely tough matches and never lost heart or considered giving up.  The team put in a very courageous first performance to be proud of.
