Finals Night 2006

The Cheltenham Table Tennis League held their Annual Awards Evening at the Saracens Club in Cheltenham on Friday night. The evening was well attended and included a quiz. The awards evening was held in recognition of players and teams achievements throughout the season and at the recent closed championships. Nick Davidson, the Vice Chairman, was master of ceremonies. Trophies were presented by President, John Boyd, Chairman, Dave Foulser, retiring division one secretary, Pete Wood, Division two secretary Simon Lockley and Sheila Matthews.

The Junior players were the first to receive their awards for the Junior Closed Championships and then the awards moved onto the main league presentations. Dave Harvey won the Open Singles title for a staggering 22nd time, with Harry Shahlaei finishing runner up. The Open Doubles went to Dave and Michael Harvey, whilst Harry Shahlaei and Sam White picked up the second place. Christine Williams secured the Ladies Singles, with Elaine Evans picking up the runners-up trophy. Matt Hartwell and Choi Tzy Cho won the Mixed Doubles with Rob Willsher and Elaine Evans capturing the runners-up trophy.

The Veterans Singles once again went to Dave Harvey who beat Dave Hope in the finals. Harry Shahlaei won the Intermediate (under 21) Singles trophy over Michael Harvey. Nick Davidson and Stewart Ratcliffe won the Minor Doubles with Dave Green and Jon Gaskell receiving the runners-up award.

Dave Adamson won the Masters Singles against Pete Wood. The Jubilee event was won by Keith Ferguson and Dave Green, with Robert Harvey and Janie Kirby receiving the consolation runners up trophy.

Jon Atkinson won the Division One Handicap trophy against Paul Perks. Stewart Ratcliffe won the Second Division Handicap with Jon Gaskell winning second place.

The Ron Dawkins Award is presented by the committee in recognition to the individual who has shown great commitment to the sport of the league. Pete Wood, the retiring division one secretary, received the award this year for his services to the league over the past 10 years.

This years Ron Dawkins Award went to Pete Wood. The award is presented each year to the person who has made a great commitment to the association. Pete is standing down as the Division One secretary at the end of the season, after 10 years of service. The award was presented by Vice Chairman Nick Davidson.
